I criticized Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei a thousand times. He was oppressing his own people and preventing democracy. But there’s one thing you can’t take away from him, he died on his own two feet, instead of kneeling to Israel. That took courage. He didn’t bow.

Iranian football legend Ali Karimi has urged Mo Salah to speak out on the killings in Iran, after the Liverpool star criticised UEFA over a post about Suleiman al-Obeid, the "Palestinian Pelé", who was killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza in August 2025.

A woman cuts her hair at her sister’s funeral in #Iran, because the regime shot her sister in the head. Let me be clear with Western female politicians, especially those in leadership positions in Europe: Do not cut your hair in symbolic solidarity with Iranian women. Cut your ties with our killers. Believe me cutting your hair for Instagram solidarity, doesn’t scare dictators. It doesn’t save lives. It just makes you feel better. Stop legitimizing our terrorist regime. Her name was Melika Dastyab. She was 21, a musician, economics student and she was dead by security forces while her sister stood next to her. That’s not a hashtag. That’s a crime against humanity.

On the eve of the World Cup, a small reminder for my opponents. When preparing for me, don't forget to look up my online games as well. Sometimes I play some big novelties there as well. All can be done easily on my website chessmonitor.com

The reaction to the leaked video of Ali Shamkhani’s daughter’s wedding came swiftly, not just from critics or exiles, but from the wounded heart of Iran itself. Niloofar, a young woman who was shot in the eye during the 2022 uprising, shared this photo on Instagram after her own wedding. In the photo, she stands in a white gown, wile covering the eye shattered by the regime’s bullets for the crime of peacefully protesting against the murder of Mahsa Amini by Hijab Police. “This eye has seen too much,” she wrote. “On my wedding day it burned and throbbed as if remembering. Every few minutes I had to stop, put cream on it, beg it to stay open. But I danced anyway. I didn’t let the pain steal this day from me, they’ve stolen enough already.” Soon, mothers and fathers whose children were killed by the regime in Iran, began posting their own photographs online. But theirs were not scenes of joy, they were portraits of absence and grief. One mother told me: “My daughter never got to wear her wedding dress. The same regime made sure of that.” This is not simply a story of a wedding dress. The timing matters. The video surfaced at a moment when many Iranians are already disillusioned: economic sanctions biting, freedoms shrinking, women taking increasing risks to assert bodily autonomy, and the morality police being bolstered. The irony, as Iranians immediately noted, was almost unbearable: the man who has built a career policing women’s bodies was proudly giving away his unveiled daughter, in a gown that would have sent any ordinary woman to prison. And so, the video spread like wildfire, not because Iranians had never seen hypocrisy before, but because they had never seen it so naked.

The daughter of Ali Shamkhani one of the Islamic Republic’s top enforcers had a lavish wedding in a strapless dress. Meanwhile, women in Iran are beaten for showing their hair and young people can’t afford to marry. This video made millions of Iranian furious. Because they enforce “Islamic values” with, bullets , batons and prisons on everyone but themselves. The main advisor of @khamenei_ir , celebrating her daughter’s wedding in at a palace-like venue. The same regime that killed #MahsaAmini for showing a bit of her hair, jails women for singing, whose hired 80,000 “morality police” to drag girls into vans, throws itself a luxury party. This isn’t hypocrisy, it’s the system. They preach “modesty” while their own daughters parade in designer dresses. The message couldn’t be clearer: the rules are for you, not for them.

Do you really want to know how Iranian morality police killed Mahsa Amini 22 year old woman? Watch this video and do not allow anyone to normalize compulsory hijab and morality police. The Handmaid's Tale by @MargaretAtwood is not a fiction for us Iranian women. It’s a reality.

Mixed in with the ramblings, denials, and conspiracies there is one very valid point Kranmik made today in his statement. It is extremely clear FIDE does not actually care what happened, they just want to make this go away asap. We as the chess community must hold our governing body accountable. A full third party investigation into how this harassment was allowed to go on for years, FIDE's response to it, and the lack of response by the ethics department must take place. The entire chess world, from kids playing in afterschool clubs to Grandmasters at the highest level, must know that Chess is a safe, inclusive space where these actions will not be tolerated. We must send a sign not just for the future, but for RIGHT NOW that these actions have no place in our game. As many of you have brought up there are currently major harassment and bullying accusations still ongoing. Players must feel confident that they can report these issues to the FIDE EDC and have them handled appropriately. A self review between old friends is not that. In order for FIDE to regain credibility and respect from it's own players major changes must be made starting at the top. I did not do enough to help Danya. We did not do enough to help Danya. But that does not mean I will sit back and watch this cycle repeat itself.
