Cognitive dissonance-fascinating. Trust vs Critical thinking? Knee jerk response vs Context? Rant vs Evidence?

The UN is a corrupt joke More slaves were held by Africans than were EVER sent across the Atlantic 7 in every 1000 Africans is a slave TODAY: 10 MILLION people It took 300 years for 10M slaves to cross the Atlantic 🤦‍♂️ And the Arab Slave Trade in Africans continues TODAY! So where are the protests outside the embassies & high commissions of Nigeria, Sudan, Mali, Chad etc? Utterly contemptible. This is not about slavery at all. This is an attack on Britain, America and the West. Slavery is universal and as old as man. What was unique was the Christian evangelical movement that spread across Britain, America and Western Europe that led to the West ending its BRIEF involvement in slavery. Never forget: Britain was the first country in world history to deliberately make itself poorer in the pursuit of a moral good - i.e. the vast sums it expended enforcing an end to the slave trade on land and the high seas. We must call this nonsense out. Me at Cambridge:
Politics Global@PolitlcsGlobal

🚨🌍 NEW: The UN has voted to recognise the slave trade as “the gravest crime against humanity” and also called for reparations to the countries impacted The UK, France and other EU member states abstained whilst the US, Israel and Argentina opposed the proposal

I’m getting my car serviced…the wet, productive, persistent hacking by a guy in the waiting room is grossing me out and gagging me 🫠 Never, ever taking my mask off.

@GriftReport Studying maths at school should be replaced by budgetting to help these clueless individuals. Though to be honest, one could argue its about commin sense, something which i think either you have or you dont. Still, keeps the economy ticking over...

@StuttySteve Guess we're coming from different pricing points My max expense on a 2nd hand car= 6k,a reasonable % of my income. Cost is based on a 6 year life cycle, allowing for 1k a year depreciation with end as scrap. Lots of young people pick up a banger for<1k When this market goes...

Agreed that EV’s generally depreciate faster, but my last secondhand petrol Porsche dropped like a stone over two years. I was always led to believe they were almost depreciation proof! On social mobility, there is a real gap between people that can charge at home, and those that rely on public charging. It doesn’t seem fair in my eyes, and it needs a solution. Unfortunately, I don’t know what that solution is, but I know it has to change. On the pence per mile. I would personally prefer to see a higher yearly tax paid (like VED). We all know there has to be a replacement for the petrol/diesel taxes, but it should not be complicated and my worry is that it’s going to be very complicated to administer.

Four years into my 2022 BMW i3s ownership (and because I am really boring), I thought I would look at the running costs, from new. It is a private car and everything is based on my own experience. Miles driven: 42,000 Energy kWh used: 13,083 Average economy: 3.2 miles per kWh of electricity. Total charging cost: £2,160 (Mix of home, work, public) ‘Fuel’ cost average of mixed charging is 5.1p per mile. General costs; Servicing x 2: £661 Car Tax x1 year: £195 MOT x2 years: £108 Insurance x 4 years: £1,800 Rear tyres x 2; £430 Wiper blades (f/r): £88 Total General costs: £3,282 So, charging & general costs are £5,442. This equals to 13p per mile. Non-essential items I have purchased: One set of winter alloy wheels and tyres: £1,560 Wheel swops (six monthly (winter/summer): £285 Rear bumper rubber protector: £105 Non-essential total costs: £1,950 All costs over 4 years: £7,392 All costs per mile: 17.6p There is also the home charger to add into the equation, and from memory, that was around £650 at the time. No idea on costs, now. Issues: Faulty dash-cam (replaced FOC) Faulty drivers door mirror (replaced FOC) This is my personal experience.

@StuttySteve Fair point, though ev depreciate at a greater rate No such things as cheap motoring Government needs tax from motorists one way Pay per mile wont be long as gov change the goalposts I reckon social mobility will decline & poor get costed out of the market

@adwallt Depreciation is only applicable, if selling, and it really isn’t just EV’s with this issue. It’s why I almost always purchases and vehicle, secondhand.

Labour will not let companies rip off ordinary people with massive price hikes. Whether at the fuel pump or the supermarket till, we’re working with regulators to make sure the price consumers pay is a fair one #PMQs

I’m charging our Tesla Model Y 100% on sunshine while still running the house & home office. That’s the shift people still underestimate. EVs aren’t just cleaner cars—they plug into a whole different energy system. Generate locally. Use directly. Skip the servo. #Bettrification

If it’s just a matter of transport, I think owning an EV now makes more sense than ever. Especially when it costs me approx £1.20 to charge for my week’s driving.

When a family sized SUV can destroy a £200k V12, it’s no wonder we now have so many fragile men spreading lies about electric cars. Their manliness is tied to what used to be fast cars, full of “soul”. Now they get destroyed by a Hyundai.

Whatever you read on the internet, please remember the facts. So far this year renewables have supplied over 42% of our grid energy. That’s more than any other energy source.

We can thank China for its MASSIVE #EV rollout, 50% of all cars sold in China are EV, that many Evs means far less pressure on Oil products.. we would be paying much more if it wasn't for mass Ev adoption.
