Account abstraction (AA) will serve as one of the catalysts for the upcoming surge in DeFi adoption. Just recently, @ethereum announced the 18 recipients of the ERC-4337 Account Abstraction grant round. Who are the teams at the forefront of the AA narrative? Let's explore ↓ #1 – ZeroDev Kernel @zerodev_app is a smart contract account created with the following features in mind: • Designed for use in AA wallets – Kernel is compatible with ERC-4337. • Efficient – The team has put great effort into optimizing its gas usage. • Modular – Kernel can be expanded with "plugins". #2 – Etherspot’s Skandha Bundler @etherspot's Skandha is a modular, developer-friendly Typescript bundler for Ethereum ERC-4337 account abstraction. By leveraging the power of bundler services and adhering to the ERC-4337 standard, the Skandha bundler service unlocks a wide range of benefits for Ethereum and EVM-compatible chain users and developers alike. #3 – MynaWallet MynaWallet is a Contract Account that integrates with the Japanese Government-Issued ID Card (Myna Card), which is currently owned by approximately 100 million residents. By leveraging the familiar method of tapping the card, MynaWallet allows users to seamlessly make token payments, transfer or receive NFTs, and execute any transaction supported by their account, all without needing to be conscious of the underlying crypto technology. #4 – Blocto In order to push the development of ERC-4337 forward, @BloctoApp decided to share 4337-specific RPC methods through Web3.js. By doing this, developers can use these methods to focus on what they truly care about: their amazing dApps. #5 – Silius Silius is a modular and highly efficient ERC-4337 bundler implementation in Rust. The project fully aligns with the broader ERC vision and ecosystem, keeping up-to-date with spec changes and supporting emerging features like P2P protocol and alternative mempools. #6 – Ambire Using email registration is a practical method for onboarding new users to crypto. It offers a familiar flow, as people are accustomed to using email for access and recovery purposes. @AmbireWallet aims to provide a simple and user-friendly solution for adding a recovery mechanism or transaction signing for Account Abstraction wallets, which also enhances security. This type of recovery or transaction signing will improve self-custody and user experience for newcomers in the Web3 space. #7 – IoTeX @iotex_io, leveraging zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs), offers a ZKP-based account abstraction wallet. This wallet enhances and broadens the potential of on-chain gaming, DeFi, DeSocial, DePIN, and other applications, establishing interoperability between Ethereum and real-world applications. The IoTeX wallet utilizes zkSNARK to confirm account access. Users can generate a valid proof using a prover if they have the correct password, which then unlocks the account. The on-chain smart contract verifies this proof to authenticate the transaction. #8 – SixdegreeLab: On-chain Data Analysis The original vision of @SixdegreeLab is to empower Web3 data analysts with the knowledge and skills needed to adapt to changes in the Ethereum and EVM chain data structure caused by ERC-4337. The goal is to enable them to conduct efficient on-chain data analysis. #9 – Jam Jam, developed by @usePicnic, is a remarkable open-source API that generates DeFi operations for ERC-4337 applications. The primary objective of Jam is to empower developers in providing a diverse range of DeFi products through a user-friendly API, thereby enhancing accessibility to DeFi for end users. #10 – Rhinestone: Modular Account Abstraction Account abstraction offers the potential for improved security and a more meaningful user experience, all while staying true to the web3 ethos. @rhinestonewtf believes that the future of account abstraction lies in modularity, where modules are smart contracts that enhance the capabilities of smart accounts. This paves the way for a new platform that encourages permissionless wallet innovation. #11 – TokenSight: Account abstraction MFA using WebAuthn The @TokenSight_Io team is currently tackling a problem in on-chain smart contract wallet security. Our approach is twofold, with two overlapping directions: 1) Creating an ERC-4337 smart contract wallet with a WebAuthn device. 2) Providing developer tooling to add the WebAuthn device as a multifactor transaction authorization mechanism to existing ERC-4337 wallets. #12 – UniPass: OpenID Authentication Module Account Abstraction empowers developers to customize validation logic and leverage a wide range of internet infrastructure for user authentication. The @UniPassWallet team is introducing an innovative solution for user authentication that verifies on-chain signatures of the ID token from the OpenID Connect protocol - OpenID Authentication Solution for New User Onboarding and Recovery. #13 – Clave: promoting secp256r1 curve support for AA The @getclave team (previously Opclave) is dedicated to researching and developing tools that leverage the software and hardware capabilities of mobile devices. Their goal is to enhance the security level of mobile device wallets while optimizing user experience. Which protocols that revolutionize the account abstraction narrative are you closely monitoring? Please let me know! PS: I highly recommend following @erc4337 to stay updated on the new developments in the AA field.

The Ethereum Shapella upgrade has opened up a new market for liquid staking, boasting an impressive combined TVL of $20 billion - the highest among all DeFi categories. The next big thing for Ethereum is the Deneb-Cancun upgrade scheduled for October 2023. What lies ahead? Cancun-Deneb is like a special boost for Ethereum. It will make Ethereum faster, safer, and easier to use. EIP-4844, aka Proto-DankSharding → DankSharding Think of DankSharding as organizing your computer's files. How so? EIP-4844 introduces something called "Blob Transactions." These are like temporary storage for data. After a while, it gets deleted, just like cleaning up old files on your computer. This way, it helps reduce costs and improve how things work on Ethereum. Proto-DankSharding serves as a temporary upgrade, acting as a "stopgap" solution to substantially reduce the gas cost of Rollups until the full sharding implementation is in place. Prior to this upgrade, rollup data was permanently stored on Ethereum, leading to exorbitant storage costs. In fact, 90% of the transaction costs users incurred for Rollup were attributed to these storage expenses. How will this impact the DeFi market? Once the Cancun upgrade is activated, users will enjoy faster and more cost-effective payments when utilizing Ethereum's native cryptocurrency, applications, and ERC-based tokens. This upgrade marks a significant advancement for Ethereum, ushering in a new era of L1 sharding. By reducing transfer costs between L1 and L2, it will result in lower gas fees and increased TPS. This is advantageous for L2 and its related ecosystems, ultimately strengthening the competitive advantage of the "Ethereum + L2" framework. This will fuel the future growth of both L2 chains and app chains (such as @SynapseProtocol SynChain, @aevoxyz chain, and the upcoming @fraxfinance's FraxChain, to name a few). As a result, these networks will become even more efficient and are likely to attract more users from CeFi. Faster and cheaper transactions are on the way!

Ethereum: The Endgame Path. The Merge has introduced liquid staking and LSTfi, which have brought substantial gains to early adopters. But what else lies ahead? I have analyzed the Ethereum roadmap to identify the upgrades that will shape Web3 in the years to come ↓ ❯ The Merge: Transitioning Ethereum's consensus mechanism from PoW to PoS. • Reduced energy consumption; • Lower net issuance of ETH; • Reduced block times (13.3s → 12s); • Improved crypto-economic security; • Stronger finality; • Introduction of yield; • Distributed Validator Technology (DVT) → better decentralization; • Secret leader election → improved security; • Single slot finality → reduceing Ethereum's block finality time to just one slot, down from the current 64 to 95 slots (roughly 15 minutes). ❯ The Surge: Scalability improvements, starting with the introduction of Proto-Danksharding. This ensures sufficient Data Availability for rollup networks. • Proto-Danksharding – PDS – EIP-4844 → minimizing the operational expenses associated with rollups; • Introduction of blobs; • Data availability sampling → this allows node validators, including light clients, to validate the availability of data without having to download the entire data blob; • KZG commitments → affirming the integrity of the original data. ❯ The Scrouge: Upgrades that prioritize censorship resistance, decentralization, and address protocol risks related to MEV. • Proposer-Builder separation → combating the centralizing force of MEV; • Identifying ways for the more equitable distribution of MEV; • Burning MEV, redirecting its value to all ETH holders rather than exclusively benefiting ETH stakers. ❯ The Verge: Introduction of statelessness by transitioning from Merkle Trees to Verkle Trees, enabling easier block verification. • Eliminating the need for validator nodes to keep a full copy of Ethereum's state; • Simplifying the process of block validation; • The adoption of weak statelessness; • Verkle Trees → efficiency in generating smaller proof sizes. ❯ The Purge: Simplification of the protocol by reducing historical data storage and eliminating technical debt. • History expiry (EIP-4444); • State expiry. ❯ The Splurge: Upgrades that encompass various improvements not covered in the previous categories, such as Account Abstraction, Verifiable Delay Functions, and enhancements to the EVM. • Account Abstraction (ERC-4337) → improved user experiences, batch transactions, enhanced security, automated transactions, flexible gas payments. • Token Bound Accounts (ERC-6551); • Multidimensional EIP-1559 → enhancing gas market efficiency through the partitioning of costs associated with the specific resources consumed by Ethereum transactions; • Verifiable Delay Functions → a more robust source of randomness. *** The future of Ethereum is bright, decentralized, and scalable. This summary is based on the recent @BinanceResearch repot "Ethereum: Beyond the Merge" by Moulik Nagesh.

OP Stack adoption is on the rise. ❯ Chains built with OP Stack are approaching $3 billion in cumulative TVL. ❯ 5 more chains are already in the testnet stage. ❯ 6 more chains have announced their plans to adopt OP Stack. Get the sweet summary on OP Stack adoption ↓ Live on the mainnet: ❯ @optimismFND@BuildOnBase@ourZORA@aevoxyz@pgn_eth Live on the testnet: ❯ opBNB by @binance@modenetwork@UniDexFinance@KintoXYZ@MantaNetwork To be deployed: ❯ @CeloOrg@DeBankDeFi ❯ Magi by @a16z@lyrafinance@latticexyz@getclave Potential deployment on OP Stack: ❯ @fraxfinance's Fraxchain Why are developers choosing OP Stack? OP Stack is specifically designed to enhance interoperability within the Ethereum community. It empowers developers to efficiently build their own blockchains that cater to specific user requirements. The OP Stack marks the initial stage in the rapid growth of highly compatible Layer-2s and Layer-3s, collectively referred to as op-chains within Optimism's ecosystem. As we look ahead, the boundaries between op-chains will dissolve, giving rise to a unified Superchain. This Superchain will seamlessly integrate multiple op-chains, allowing for the shared utilization of collective resources. How does the adoption of OP Stack contribute to the growth and prosperity of Optimism? Let's examine the case of Base more closely. In the past month alone, Base has generated over $4M in revenue. With 10% of that amount contributing to the Optimism treasury, it would result in nearly $5M per year. Furthermore, it's worth noting that every additional Layer 2 that integrates Optimism's Superchain will also allocate a portion of its earnings to the OP Treasury. Bullish? Very likely. I plan to provide a more detailed analysis of all protocols that leverage OP Stack technology in the @Th3Optimist newsletter by @Subli_Defi. Be sure to subscribe so you don't miss out on any updates regarding Optimism's progress!
