Can found opus 4.8 in Google Vertex. Can’t confirm any of this tho. However, the fact that Sonnet 4.8 is coming soon has been common knowledge since the data leak. The inclusion of Opus 4.8 in Vertex comes as a surprise to me - though, considering the accelerated release schedule and the massive success of GPT-5.5, it is certainly plausible. Couldn’t be more excited!

Posted this last summer, ~9 months ago. The number of things AI couldn’t do back then but can do now has vastly increased and continues to accelerate. Yet I’ll repeat this for the remaining skeptics: whatever you think AI can’t do today, it will do it all in at most a few years.

@lmcorrigan1 whereas what i think is generally priced in i think is like significantly better chatbots, maybe it's a bit better than regular doctors now or something, programmers dont do much, some small scientific discoveries. i think the actual evidence points much more radically than that

@lmcorrigan1 i think there's a good chance we get full on extremely fast RSI. enough to plan for for sure. not more likely than not, but maybe but maybe 15% chance the alpha species in the known universe is completely unrecognizable to us due to extremely fast doubling times in 1 or 2 years

It’s crazy how we’ve gone from 12% on AIME (GPT 4o) → IMO gold in ~ 15 months. We have come very far very quickly. I wouldn’t be surprised if by next year models will be deriving new theorems and contributing to original math research!
