The CIA is working to arm Kurdish forces with the aim of fomenting a popular uprising in Iran, multiple people familiar with the plan told CNN, appearing to confirm earlier reporting from ITV News. The Trump Administration has been in active discussions with Iranian opposition groups and Kurdish leaders in both Iran and Iraq about providing them with military support, sources said, with President Trump said to have spoken Tuesday with the President of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (KDPI), Mustafa Hijri. Iranian Kurdish opposition forces are expected to take part in a ground operation in Western Iran, in the coming days, according to senior Iranian Kurdish official, with the idea being for Kurdish paramilitary forces to take on the Iranian security forces and pin them down to make it easier for unarmed Iranians in the major cities to turn out without getting massacred again as they were during unrest in January.

The United States and Israel are seeking to foment an armed uprising inside Iran using a Kurdish fighting force, which has been built up since the Twelve-Day War in 2025, according to ITV News. Sources claim that since last year, weapons have been smuggled into Western Iran to arm thousands of Kurdish volunteers. NEW: The family of Bilal Abdul Kareem received a voice message from inside prison after nearly 2 months since he was taken and arrested by Syrian security forces.
BUT a short, monitored message does not replace due process. His family still has no clear charges, no legal explanation, and no timeline. Under any fair legal system, a person has the right to know why they are detained, to communicate freely, and to have their case handled with transparency.
They are not asking for special treatment, only for the basic standards of law to be respected. If there is a case, make it clear. If there are charges, present them. Silence and uncertainty are not justice.
We call on the relevant authorities to clarify Bilal Abdul Kareem’s legal status, guarantee his rights, and allow transparency for his family and the public.

Syrian Government Forces Kill Civilian and Mutilate Body in Raqqa
On January 18, militants affiliated with the Syrian government detained a 26-year-old Kurdish civilian named Omar Mohammad Hero in the city of Raqqa. According to eyewitness testimonies, the militants first cut off his left ear and stabbed him in the back of the head before killing him. After killing him they drove a military tank over his body, crushing his remains.
Ten days later, on January 28, Omar’s body was handed over to his family. He was laid to rest in the village of Qara Baba, located in the Rajo district of Afrin.
Omar’s family is originally from Qara Baba in Afrin. Their history is one of repeated displacement; they were forced to flee their homes four times, moving from Afrin to Shahba, then to Tabqa, followed by Aleppo, and finally settling in Qamishlo.
Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) - Iraqi Kurdistan, through gathering documentation, conducting interviews, and verifying photographic and video evidence has confirmed the details of this incident.
