If Assad had cracked down as hard as the IRI did or his dad had at Homs, my guess is that the Syrian Civil War would have been very short or wouldn’t have happened at all though.
Otherwise, a meaningful difference is that in Iran there weren’t military defections of the sort seen in Syria at the beginning. The Iranian regime proved more internally stable.

Why wouldn't Israel allow them to praise Assad ? Assad was viewed as much more preferential choice to the rebels. Israel in general didn't intervene into local affairs of Golan Druze. Plus, Druze of Golan had to commit to that "lip service" in order to be able to visit the rest of Syria, where many of them had relatives. Israeli support for the separatists in the province of Suwayda is a tactic that seemed like a good idea at the time, not a necessarily permanent feature. Israel isn't going to risk Israeli soldiers to fuck up an enemy not threatening it; without that, Suwayda is on its own.
