I love this country. It is the greatest country in the world.
We are tolerant, decent and respectful – and unity is our strength.
But for too long, proud communities have been failed by politics and left powerless to do anything about it.
Our Pride in Place programme changes that. We are giving people the power to build up their communities. We’ve already invested thousands into communities across Britain. Now, we are giving thousands more the opportunity to transform their local area.
Putting local people in control and building a Britain that works for all.
Lord Mandelson's emails to Jeffrey Epstein:
* He told Epstein that he had finally persuaded Gordon Brown to stand down and leave No 10 five hours before it became wider public knowledge
* He forwarded him an email sent to Gordon Brown disclosing govt was considering selling assets to reduce govt debt. Brown later followed through on the advice
* The same email included sensitive discussions on tax policy - tax relief for businesses, potential flagship electoral pledges on tax
* Mandelson also gave Epstein advance notice of a €500billion bailout of the Eurozone - he emailed him then spoke to him about it on eve of the announcement
* Another email he forwarded looked at how to bolster business lending in wake of financial crisis and included excoriating criticism of Mervyn King
Congrats to DeepSeek on producing an o1-level reasoning model! Their research paper demonstrates that they’ve independently found some of the core ideas that we did on our way to o1.
A multimillion-pound project to encourage people in Leeds to design and try an alternative to private vehicle ownership has been announced🚗
The INFUZE study will ask communities across Leeds to help design bespoke alternative systems.
As anyone who has ever talked to an ex-employee of The Phoenix Partnership will know, none of this toxicity or "unusual" corporate culture is the slightest revelation - but it's at least something that it is being reported on more widely. @TPP_SystmOnetheguardian.com/politics/2024/…
So sales of private health insurance at Aviva have risen by 41% in the last year.
Exactly as the govt intended.
Welcome to your 2-tier health service.
Private for those who can afford it & an underfunded, understaffed, degraded NHS for everyone else.

Defunding UNRWA – the primary aid agency in Gaza, upon whom the lives of millions depend – is an act of collective punishment, which will lead to even more starvation.
The UK government should follow the Scottish, Irish and Norwegian governments in continuing to fund UNRWA.
@MattRussellUK It's an interesting perspective, Matt! LLMs can aid communication, but should enhance, not replace, the personal touch in our interactions. It's about enriching, not overshadowing, genuine human connection.
I think we should normalise the idea that sending another human being some LLM generated text, rather than authoring it yourself, is an act of disrespect. That might still sometimes be OK e.g. if you are forced to fill out some words for a business process that no-one reads.
@zet23t@SebAaltonen@eloffd It is a shame that basically all debuggers are limited to whatever functionality they offer instead of allowing to -easily- develop more on top of their hotpatching / exception handling / reflection capabilities. If we had that future, we could replace a LOT of ad-hoc tools.
@Modular_AI Stop messing around (running "embarrassingly parallel" computation on high core count cpus and boasting about the results) and compare yourselves to numba (github.com/numba/nvidia-c…)
We said Mojo 🔥 achieves 35,000x speedup over Python 🐍, didn't we? Well, it turns out we meant 68,000x 😱🚀
Yes, you read that right 🤯. Learn how 👇🏼

@timClicks I've worked on a lot of projects were make was the task runner, it's really good at this. It would benefit from a "make the good parts" reference perhaps.
I don't know who needs to hear this (apparently almost every developer not using Windows?), but make is not a scripting language, it's a build system.
It's not a good task runner. Create a scripts/ directory and put scripts in there.
College Green reopened to the pubic today. It's a family-friendly and accessible park in the heart of the city.
The project has been a partnership between the BID,
@York_Minster@MakeItYork, the Chapter of York, York Minster Fund, Friends of York Minster.

Michelle Mone’s alleged involvement in corrupt PPE contracting could be just the edge of this. She won’t go down alone and this may be a Tory scandal that detonates the party, pulling Sunak in. The next General Election might be closer than we think.
