@ageorgeverghese Sir, we are an independent bookstore & we have to sell books for a living. At our store we have many staff working for whom this is a livelihood. Why are you wishing that our families lives are ruined? Pls do not do that sir. We only want best wishes from readers and community.

On the whole, India's energy shock is drawing far lesser reporting than demonetisation or GST. The little reportage we have is scattered and episodic, not systematic or sustained. After 12 years of spoon-feeding and coercion from the NDA, newsrooms have forgotten how to report.

This shortage is falling disproportionately on poor/migrants. As this report for @carboncopyinfo found, they are now paying global rates for LPG -- because they buy from private LPG bottlers -- while the middle class gets subsidised LPG. carboncopy.info/the-great-lpg-…

Over the past year, one of our key initiatives supported by Sumanasa Foundation has been The Mukavinai Project, an effort to bring attention to a rare and beautiful instrument that is deeply connected to the Kattaikkuttu tradition. The mukavinai is a small double-reed wind instrument, and while it may not be widely known, its sound carries with it layers of history, performance practice, and cultural memory. Through this project, we supported Sasikumar P., a gifted mukavinai artist from Kancheepuram, as he undertook the ambitious journey of researching and documenting the instrument. Mentored by P. Rajagopal and Hanne de Bruin of Kattaikkuttu Sangam, Sasikumar has been tracing the history and evolution of the mukavinai, while also exploring its current practice and the socio-cultural context that surrounds it. Sasikumar has written a detailed piece for The News Minute, sharing more about the instrument and his journey with it. REPORTAGE: 2.5 months into the Iran war, India’s LPG market is splitting into parallel economies. In parts of the country, gas cylinders are available as before. Elsewhere, LPG prices have soared so high families are falling back on firewood. Here is why. carboncopy.info/the-great-lpg-…

@IsraelMFA This is your dumbest PR move to date. Your soldiers were FILMED doing this, and a member of your parliament (Hanoch Milwidsky) defended it. You will never win this lawsuit. If you were serious, you would allow for an independent investigation of your horrific crimes.

Following the publication by Nicholas Kristof in The New York Times of one of the most hideous and distorted lies ever published against the State of Israel in the modern press, which also received the backing of the newspaper, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar have instructed the initiation of a defamation lawsuit against The New York Times.

Bengaluru: BSWML has launched 'DClutter' mobile app for doorstep collection of bulky waste such as old furniture, mattresses, cupboards, sanitary fittings & discarded clothes in Bengaluru. Such waste was often dumped on roadsides as it was not covered under regular collection. During a pilot drive, BSWML collected nearly 6,000 tonnes of bulky waste. Citizens can use the Android & iOS app to register, select items & schedule pickups for scientific recycling & disposal @BSWML_GBA

@ramsraghu882 Very right. But the problem is that many a times empathy and rules clash. Also, empathy can lead to bias too. May be transparency in decision making would help?

My 26 years experience in the government agrees with this totally. #Obama “democracy only functions when its leaders remain genuinely, uncomfortably close to the specific gravity of individual human suffering rather than processing it from behind the insulating distance of institutions and screens."
Mr PitBull Stories@MrPitbull07

The history books quietly bypassed is that Barack Obama, during the most pressure-saturated nights of his presidency, would retreat alone to the Treaty Room on the second floor of the White House residence — not to strategize, not to take calls, but to handwrite personal letters to ten ordinary American citizens every single night, a practice he maintained with almost monastic devotion across all eight years, selecting the letters himself from the 40,000 that arrived daily at the White House, and his longtime correspondence director Fiona Reese confirmed that Obama would often weep privately while reading certain letters, folding them carefully before writing responses so personally detailed and emotionally present that recipients frequently described the experience of receiving them as the most significant moment of their lives, with one Ohio steelworker writing back to say that Obama's letter had physically stopped him from making a decision that would have permanently altered his family's future. What makes this practice almost unbearably moving is the detail that surfaced later — Obama never used a computer for these letters, always a black felt-tip pen, always legal yellow paper first as a draft, always rewritten onto White House stationery by hand a second time, because he believed, as he told historian Doris Kearns Goodwin in a rare private conversation later recounted in her 2018 work, that the physical act of pressing pen to paper forced a quality of attention that typing simply could not replicate, a philosophy rooted in his years as a constitutional law professor at the University of Chicago from 1992 to 2004 where he developed the conviction that democracy only functions when its leaders remain genuinely, uncomfortably close to the specific gravity of individual human suffering rather than processing it from behind the insulating distance of institutions and screens."

@Captain_Mani72 This resonates so strongly for me. I feel it has wider applicability. Especially during the Gaza carnage, I started seeing that turning away was what allowed everyone (leaders, citizens of the world) to accept the unacceptable

Law and order in India A queer woman voluntarily left her marital family because it was abusive. When she was summoned by a police station in Delhi to record her statement, Bajrang Dal surrounded the spot. The mob obstructed the police from helping the woman, and accused the activists of trafficking and forcing her into religious conversion. Do read this absolutely infuriating story on @queerbeat_media Reported by @nikita1712 @Ankur_pali and @SourishSamanta queerbeat.org/stories/how-a-…

It has always been a pleasure to engage in conversation with the people of Bengaluru and it was no different at the launch of We, The People of India: Decoding a Nation's Symbols at BIC. It was a pleasure to have Dhanya Rajendran and Gautham Bhan discuss the book from two very different angles. Dhanya spoke of text as a much needed intervention at a time when many democratic symbols are being appropriated and used for parochial needs. Gautham Bhan on the other hand raised philosophical questions about the very need for standardised symbols, and our complex relationship with the nation. A conversation that was filled with thought, banter and laughter! @WestlandBooks @bicblr @dhanyarajendran @GautamBhan80
