One interesting dynamic that AI agents have is that you can more easily incorporate multiple solutions to go after the same problem in a workflow. The cost of getting a second opinion has become so cheap that there’s no reason to not deploy agents to check work, or go after different angles on the same thing. The cost of doing this with people would have always been too expensive, so we don’t even really know what this means for our processes yet. But when you can have multiple agents work on coding, presenting different views on a medical diagnosis, red teaming for security reviews, or analyzing data in different ways, we are going to get all new benefits. A corollary to this is also why there’s more opportunity than we realize in AI agents right now. Almost no market is inherently zero sum in AI.

@reidhoffman Here’s my reality: - 1,452 iterations on my task distributor & supervisor - 531 iterations on my personal post writer - 23 iterations on my personal summarizer Sometimes I wanna quit so badly but I just don't. And I'm rewarded with amazing results.

@levie battling with this right now. So far, specialisation beats context windows every time

The paradigm of AI subagents is going to be super interesting. There was probably some hope or belief that a universal agent would be able to handle everything you needed in a workflow by stuffing all the relevant context into the context window. But even with larger context windows, this isn’t a panacea, and we see context rot which leads to worse results for long running tasks. So just as we divide labor up in an organization to maximize effectiveness, the same makes sense for agents. The kind of instructions you give a lawyer to review contracts is entirely different from the operations team that processes the contract for a deal. The tools that a security engineer will leverage for testing code are different from the agent that’s creating the code. And so on. Thus, the specific instructions, domain understanding, tool use, and context engineering is necessarily different depending on the unique roles or tasks that you need an agent to do. There are still a ton of questions, like what is the right atomic unit of a subagent - does it get as specialized as jobs are today, or do they own general parts of a workflow (like an agent per section of a codebase)? What’s the best way to have shared state or memory across these agents? How do we ensure “lead” agents can appropriately hand off work to the right subagent to be most effective? Ultimately, we’re in the earliest phases of this paradigm but it’s clear that this will be a major unlock for AI agent effectiveness.

This is the largest wildfire France has ever seen — an area larger than Paris burned overnight. 16,000 hectares and still growing. Wildfires across Europe are up a staggering 40% this year. The fingerprints of climate change are undeniable. A Towering Pyrocumulus pictured.

GLOBAL WARMING WILL BE FAR ABOVE IPCC AR6 Real world warming with feedbacks will be far above IPCC, at over 6°C, under today's high emissions scenario. IPCC has single fixed climate sensitivity of 3°C (as 1990). IPCC excludes amplifying feedbacks from temperature projections. In fact IPCC 2007 AR4 high emissions scenario (A1FI) including feedbacks put 2100 warming at 6.4°C. IPCC warming is only to 2100, while real warming continues far beyond 2100. ipcc.ch/report/ar6/wg1… #climatechange #globalwarming

We did it. Again. All-time heat index record today. This will be in the record books for Tampa Airport, the official site. Once again, like yesterday, we hit 120 (for a while today) but the 119 will be official. Yesterday the official was 118. On a side note, heat index was 104 at 8am today. We also tied (so far) the record high of 97. @WFLA @FlyTPA Give me a break.

No sign of any heat dome or heatwave here that many have asked about, not sure where that was forecast or mentioned. Much of Europe escaping the heat but parts of Spain and Portugal still seeing up to 40c.

I don't think you can understate just how impressive this heat dome is. It covers 2/3 of the nation in which 80% of the country's population over the 7 day heatwave period will hit 90+ for a high temperature (~260 million people) The peak intensity of the heat dome was record breaking for the SE US in late July. It peaked at 3.7 standard deviations, based on statistics from the past climate records we have, which means this heat dome is rare, if not virtually impossible, in our former climate of the 1900s. But human-caused climate change now makes these extreme heat domes much more likely. From the climate scientists at World Weather Attribution: “Every heatwave in the world is now made stronger and more likely to happen because of human-caused climate change.” A note: Its not the strongest heat dome I’ve seen and ground temperatures, although very hot, are not breaking many all-time records. The surface temps are not quite commensurate with the power of the heat dome aloft mainly due to the elevated low-level moisture from the Gulf. Yes, as a climate specialist, I am very aware that climate change is not the only factor as to why it’s hot. I’m aware there is alot of asphalt making it hotter in cities. I’m aware it was record hot in the 1930s. I know the climate has always changed and the Earth goes through hot/ cold cycles. I know we are near sun spot maximum. I know all this, and more, because I have a Master’s degree in climate and I study this Every day. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. What a difference a year makes! This time last year, there were 49 large wildfires in the Pacific Northwest affecting almost 1.3M acres. Today, there are six large wildfires affecting about 40,000 acres in Oregon and Washington.
