Marc severely underestimates the amount of time Alexander the Great spent reflecting on his conquests. He conquered 30+ kingdoms in 16 years. That left an average of 4-5 months on horseback as he marched to the next kingdom he was compelled to defeat. Plenty of time for introspection.

Another example: Tons of political angst, but people never talk about it. The animus is manufactured by media, but most people are centrist. Passive aggressive dynamics are encouraged by radical people… who never talk about it, but label people and get them cut out.

This creates disorientation & frustrates consensus. In more relative isolation, media has greater influence For example: People are terrified about privacy implications of social media & will cut some people off, but never talk about it. Those people disappear from algorithms

@pmarca … except that most people using AI to get ahead don’t usually attribute to AI the influences they believe are most significant or useful. And if social communication becomes systematically dampened, then AI will begin to be perceived as comparatively far more valuable

@pmarca AI provides benefits by proxy. I don’t need to use it to benefit from it. I’d argue that the random information & signals you pick up from other people using AI is probably far more useful than the information one normie w/ tooling/automation gets from their private AI sessions
