I’m actually pretty pissed at how badly they’ve bungled America 250. First they tried to invite Milli Vanilli and a bunch of other absurdly washed up geriatric one hit wonders. Then when that didn’t work they decided to convert the event into a Trump rally where Trump will talk about himself for 90 minutes. This should have been a massive, raucous celebration of the country and its 250 year history. Now it will be a political rally identical to the ten million other ones we’ve already seen.

@AOC: Well, first I want to say in a lot of ways we're all kind of Bernie's successors. I think that this class consciousness that young people have today has been a big part of Bernie's life. And so I say that because I know that is also what he would say and it's what he wants. But also, in terms of the class piece — a lot of it just had to do with the experiences of my life, which are the experiences that a lot of people have. I grew up in a household that was actually not very — it was political, but it was not very political at the same time. My parents identified as independents. They were very skeptical of the political system.

Unlike previous cycles the party base are frustrated with Dem leadership and Dem party aligned media. These were the forces that were deployed with such great effect against left candidates in the past. Nothing is guaranteed of course but Nathan is absolutely right that the dynamics and possibilities are far different from the past.
