Sometimes decisions made by the courts are wrong: in my opinion the case of Paul v Wolverhampton was one of those - now a dad who attends hospital expecting to bring a healthy baby home, whose baby dies due to negligence, has no legal rights & their harm is ignored in law.

NEW: Police are investigating a number of deaths at an NHS hospital. The patients all died following the same heart procedure at Castle Hill hospital near Hull. We’ve seen documents which show medical errors occurred but some death certs didn’t reflect what had happened. 🧵

@BBCMBuchanan With Ida’s case the Midwives weren’t trained or not properly and an assumption of a low risk normal birth and there is a real lack of learning from previous events - the coroner had acknowledged that making mistakes is human but not learning from them is unforgivable .

NEW: A coroner has ruled that a baby girl died due to gross failures by 3 midwives. Ida Lock was born at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary in 2019 but died a week later. The Morecambe Bay trust, which ran the hospital, was also severely criticised for its response to the death.

I’m deeply saddened by the evidence emerging from the Ida Lock inquest. It’s clear that the lessons from the Morecambe Bay Investigation were not fully heeded at the time—utterly unacceptable. My heart goes out to Ida’s family & my deepest sympathies are with them.

What a brave and determined couple. Unbelievable that their fight for the truth surrounding their son Ben's avoidable death extended to over a decade, uncovering deceit and cover-up. My heart goes out to them. So much for Duty of Candour in NHS Trusts! 💔🥺

Thank you @BBCBreakfast for having us on the show this morning to share Ben’s story. Just last week, the Avon coroner added bacterial super infection to Ben’s death certificate which is everything we have fought for over the past ten years. In his verdict the coroner used some scathing language to criticise @uhbwNHS for being evasive and defensive and not assisting him reaching his verdict. How many more years will it take for someone to hold accountable those doctors who covered up their negligent failings which killed Ben in 2015 @wesstreeting @MariaKaneNHS @CQCProf @gmcuk @matthewhillbbc
