Separatist leader, Mitch Sylvestre, wants the Court to issue an injunction and stop his signature collection. This way, he’ll never need to prove that he got 177,000 signatures (I doubt he did) and Danielle Smith will give him a referendum anyhow. #ableg cbc.ca/news/canada/ca…

Muhammad was in his final year of medical school in Gaza when he was kidnapped and imprisoned by Israeli military while caring for his patients. Two weeks from his final exams, he begged to be released, so he could live his dream of being a surgeon. The Israeli guard then shot off both his thumbs. Did Canada give Israel the bullets? Watch the press conference demanding an end to Canadas support for Israel's ongoing genocide @AnitaAnandMP @MarkJCarney stop weapon transfers now. End diplomatic relations now.

@DonWalker81 @SPhillipsAB @davejtoews Like repeating a stupid catch phrase will make every day Albertans better off. News flash - oil and gas doesn’t for two shits about us. They’ll toss in a fancy rec center here & there but that’s it. They still laid off 1000s over the last few years. It’s an unreliable job market

This is the line of attach Nenshi is trying to get out in front of but all he's done is lend it more weight. Personally I think there *should* be a party for Albertans who don't think the world revolves around oil and gas, but as of right now there isn't.
Danielle Smith@ABDanielleSmith

This weekend, NDP members elected self-declared “eco-socialist” Avi Lewis @avilewis as their leader. Lewis has called for a full ban on new pipelines and all fossil fuel development, at a time when the world needs Alberta energy more than ever. And while Naheed Nenshi @nenshi may try to distance himself, the Alberta NDP’s own constitution makes clear they are tied to the federal party. The truth is, the Alberta NDP has a long track record of opposing pipelines and energy development. Their extreme views are a danger to jobs and affordability. The UCP will never stop fighting against radical forces, including the Alberta NDP, who want to shut down our economy and keep our resources in the ground.

@SPhillipsAB @davejtoews Hey Shannon this is pretty sad response coming from someone who calls themselves a New Democrat. You’re at best a liberal and willing to sellout for oil and gas. Thanks for being like every other politician in this province. Listen to constituents not oil and gas execs.

@DildoSchwaggi19 @SPhillipsAB That’s fine. I’m not centre-right and I don’t want to vote for a party who is willing to bend on their values to get a vote. I believe a two party system will only benefit the few. We need more variance in political parties to truly reflect Canadians. There’s a better way.

@akjelgrith @SPhillipsAB Fence sitting conservatives will vote NDP. I’m living proof Fact is, the left vote in Alberta isn’t strong enough. So you need to appeal to some of the “centre-right”. Unless a second Conservative Party shows up to split the vote again, the NDP won’t win. So you have to attract

@funnierhandle It feels like, if they believe their pro-oil stance is about pragmatic politics, yet they can't get elected anyways, why not just run on your ideals? If these are your ideals, then why use the name of the federal party that is counter to that?

the difference in how he responded to Carney’s election tells you what everyone already knows: Nenshi and his ilk are not social democrats, they’re Liberals opportunistically using provincial NDP as a vehicle for their centrist careerism the most disingenuous people in politics

Today, the federal New Democratic Party selected its new leader. It is clear that the direction of the federal party under this new leader, someone who openly cheered for the defeat of the Alberta NDP government, is not in the interests of Alberta. Last year, Alberta’s New Democrats voted overwhelmingly to make membership in the federal party optional. Many thousands of our provincial members, including myself, are not members of the federal party. We are a big tent and welcome the support of people who vote for every federal party. We believe in Alberta and we believe in Canadian energy and the good jobs it creates. We believe in more pipelines and in reducing emissions. We believe in strong public services and a strong jobs-driven economy to help pay for them. This is what we are fighting for every day. Albertans deserve federal leaders who understand the importance of Alberta and our essential role in the federation. Our focus is not on what the federal NDP says or does. Our fight is with Danielle Smith and the separatist UCP. Albertans deserve a better government, and we are here to be that better government.

@DildoSchwaggi19 @SPhillipsAB The NDP hasn’t won anything by getting con votes. They keep trying the same thing hoping for a different result. If I wanted a neoliberal gov I’d vote liberal. Conservatives aren’t voting NDP. I won’t support an NDP gov who thinks you can lower emissions AND build pipelines

@yfcherries Many better options. But it seems like as soon as the NDP gets a leader they stop caring about the people who voted them in and are trying to win over conservatives. Thats never going to happen. They need to be trying to win the vote of people who vote green or refuse to vote.

@nenshi @N8V_Calgarian Wait, we believe in more pipelines? I don’t think I’m represented at all in Alberta. I live in a conservative riding. I voted for the NDP but what you describe is not NDP. It’s the same old neoliberal bullshit. The Alberta NDP needs to be far more progressive than this statement

A Tumbler Ridge local who attended the vigil last night sent me the following observations: "After the vigil, Carney vanished, but David Eby and Poilievre stayed behind. Numerous people approached Poilievre and he spoke to them individually. Almost no one approached Eby."
