Here we have the reason for the cancellation of the first Northern Service (2P62) 06.43 Lincoln to Sheffield which was caused by a fault on the train in the depot, that train has been in the depot all night for maintenance so why has it it failed to get to Lincoln.

Thanks to a helpful member of the railway staff I learn that since SWR was nationalised last year the number of train cancellations and delays has increased by 80%. How bad is that? The reason, I discover, is that in the days it was commercially run, the SWR management had to pay a fine to state-owned Network Rail every time a train was cancelled. Since Labour took control it was decided the fines should be scrapped. The inevitable result of no penalties is that there is no pressure of the management to deliver, which means every time you go to the station ( mine’s Weybridge) it’s a lottery. Grateful if our useless local Tory MP Ben Spenser might do something on behalf of the the important voter/commuters in his constituency and ask Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander why our train service has collapsed since nationalisation. My advice is to read this tweet before telling lies to the Commons.
