I’m slowly dialing back my presence here, and trying out Mastodon. Not ready to pull the plug yet, but expect to soon. If I followed you here and you have your Mastodon on your bio, I’ve hopefully found you already, but come find me at Aleatha@mastodon.online if not.

I am unfortunately not on my way to @acm_ccs... But please RT - I am looking for motivated postdocs to work on #privacy #web #darkpatterns #GDPR with me!
Nataliia Bielova@nataliabielova

I am recruiting a postdoc to start in Spring/Summer 2023 at @inria_sophia, who are interested in web/mobile privacy and detecting violations of #GDPR #ePrivacy. I work closely with the @CNIL and legal scholars. ➡️ recrutement.inria.fr/public/classic… RTs are very welcome 🙏🏻

Reminder to exercise your right to export your data from Twitter. Even if you are planning to stay, now would be a smart time to have backups. There will probably be failwhales coming, you don’t lay that many people off that fast and get stable infra.

Let me summon the ghost of Parler here as well: they were booted off of AWS for *not having an effective abuse management process.* Irrevocably break Twitter's content moderation, and the cloud providers will reduce your bill to $0 for you.

Further, I've spoken with a number of folks over the years who until recently worked at Twitter. I'm not sure who needs to hear it, but these people aren't idiots. They're incredibly smart and capable. They weren't doing economically dumb things.

@LeaKissner Warm wishes to all of you. I’ve only been lucky enough to meet a few, but I’ve been uniformly impressed by the kindness and skill I saw.

I am so fiercely proud of the privacy, security, and IT teams at Twitter. I've seen you do great work and get really good at getting that great work done in the face of enormous challenges. No matter what happens I've been so lucky. Thank you. Just like always, I'm here for you.

@djcapelis It’s not the engagement algorithms that are driving me away, it’s the stated commitment (whether he understands or not) to making it a (worse) haven for misinformation, trolls, and nazis. I’ve flipped tables repeatedly on this site anyway, I’m kinda done.

The three laws of effective decision making: That which is not written down did not happen. That which is not discoverable is not written down. That which is written down in multiple authoritative places that disagree is not written down.
