Many thanks to Dr. Ahmed Ghazi (@aghazimd) from @brady_urology for joining us earlier this month as our Visiting Professor!
He led our residents through a day of hands-on training using high-fidelity, patient-specific 3D models for endoscopic, robotic, transperineal, and open procedures.

Congratulations @ztonysu @LoganGalanskyMD Lamont. Time flies! "The patients who are most vulnerable — the frail, the frightened, the ones whose bodies have turned against them, they are not interruptions to your purpose. They are your purpose. Never lose sight of that." So proud!

@UroDocAsh @SUO_YUO Great thread + discussion. Thoughts re basic/translational science by urologists and 2nd yr? Less research time allocated even to faculty + little research in fellowship= a change in urologist role in innovation. Not for everyone but very rewarding for some despite lower $$.

If we want to attract the best residents, we should spend less time lamenting their choices and more time understanding them. @SUO_YUO
Similar conversations are occurring across all of academia, law, consulting, technology etc.
And I often hear that ‘resident/fellows just don’t want to work as hard anymore”. That misses the point. The current generation simply demand a clearer - more defined - return on their investment.

Been following this discussion with interest. As fellowship program director @UTMDAnderson 2005-2016, and one of the original team involved in creating the SUO Fellowship Committee @UroOnc, I’ve seen the forces driving this trend building for years.
A few observations. 🧵

Why is there such diminished interest in urologic oncology with American residents? I need an explanation

An Argentinian TV show accidentally invited a urologist instead of a ufologist on and asked him about aliens.
“I’m a urologist, not a ufologist. It sounds similar, but it’s not the same.”
To be honest it sounds close enough to me.
