Yesterday, the FDIC proposed new rules for bank-owned companies that issue payment stablecoins. Under the proposal, these bank-affiliated issuers would be required to have: 🔸 1:1 backing with real assets 🔸 The ability to redeem anytime at full value 🔸 Reserves kept separate and not reused 🔸 Oversight aligned with existing bank regulatory frameworks Important: FDIC insurance protects the reserves at banks, not individual stablecoin holders. Why it matters: When the rules are clear, people and businesses can use stablecoins with more confidence for payments and moving money.
