Rwanda: The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an updated Level 3 (Reconsider Nonessential Travel) Travel Health Notice for Ebola for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and a Level 1 (Practice Usual Precautions) Travel Health Notice for Ebola  for Uganda. Due to the Ebola outbreak, Rwanda has implemented new entry and exit requirements: On May 22, 2026, the Ministry of Health of Rwanda announced that all foreign nationals who have traveled to, or transited through, the DRC within 30 days of their travel to Rwanda will be denied entry. Ituri province in the #DRC is not only the epicentre of the #Ebola outbreak, but also one of the areas hardest hit by acute hunger. The latest @theIPCinfo data show that across Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, and Tanganyika, nearly 10 million people are facing hunger. This hunger crisis is driven not only by conflict and economic pressures, but also by limited access to essential services and weakened infrastructure. In many affected areas, health facilities are either non-functional or operating under severe constraints due to insecurity. Poor road conditions further restrict the movement of goods and humanitarian assistance. Hunger and disease are old companions. People weakened by hunger are far more vulnerable to infections. @WHO and 55 humanitarian partners are present across affected areas, providing essential health services, including treatment for acute malnutrition. But our work continues to be impeded by violence and limited access to some of the hardest-to-reach communities. Together with the DRC government and our partners, we will continue scaling up the response to the ongoing crisis, not only to end the Ebola outbreak, but also to address the broader humanitarian and health needs of affected communities. To do so, we urgently need sufficient funding, as well as sustained and safe access so that: - Responders can be protected from the Ebola Bundibugyo virus - Responders can provide protection and care to affected communities - Humanitarian teams can deliver aid and a full package of healthcare services to all communities in need

“Africa, if you add up the 55 countries of the African Union, that’s about 1.5 billion people—same size as India, same size as China. The big difference is that the imperial powers divided Africa into 55 little countries, not one of which can thrive on its own, whereas India and China, because of the history, remained. So I tell them every single time I have the opportunity that the African Union is the key. As 55 you can’t make it, but as one African continental economy you can make it. So what’s happening now is Africa’s population is continuing to rise—it’s the only place in the world with rapid population growth—and all the others are declining. Everyone else has peaked or is just about to peak or actually beginning a decline. Africa’s population today is 1.5 billion. By 2050 it’ll be 2.5 billion. That’s a lot, adding a billion people in the next quarter century. If you go even farther and just try to extrapolate based on current trends, Africa’s population reaches about 3.5 billion. According to the UN’s most recent forecast, 3.7 billion by the end of the 21st century. And Africa goes from being 9% of the world population to being more than 30% of the world population. It’s going to be a completely different world. What do I say to African leaders every time? Be Africa-wide.
