The rawlsian assumption that underlies this question is fallacious, of course. If I, with my exact temperament, interests, intelligence etc. (my "soul") were teleported into the antebellum south as a black slave, I would be treated exceptionally well because I would not do things that necessitated whipping and so on.
I'm pretty sure the white slave owners would say, "wow, this negro is so fantastically smart, law-abiding, and productive that we will put him in charge of all the other negros".
Though they would probably (and rightfully) have me whipped for trying to sleep with the white women because I cannot abide the idea of taking an african wife

Can anyone make the case African slaves in 1840 antebellum American South had worse lives in any way than feudal European villagers, peasants, and serfs? Serfs were also bound to their land and feudal lord, sometimes beaten. Should we pay their descendants infinite reparations?

You are inventing scenarios and simultaneously misrepresenting the psychology of the parents in said scenario. Obviously the answer is the child in your Last Action Hero fan-fic.
Doing everything you can to protect the child is not the same as prioritizing said child over your spouse. If you weren’t inventing scenarios to make a point, you’d see that.
Your spouse is your priority, then your child, and your mother doesn’t even enter into the equation.

@marygrace @NatHalberstadt Moved away from ink and anything color about 15 years ago. Only use monochrome laser with toner and issues with printers became less of a thing for me.

I don’t know what to tell you. I rarely print anything anymore so if I need something, I just go to Kinko’s. It wasn’t worth the cost of trying to keep the ink fresh and finding out I need a new ink every time I wanted to print something. And that I somehow needed a fresh supply of magenta ink in order to print something in black-and-white. It was such a scam.
