@hijunedkhatri I kid you not, I once left my cushy $20k/month freelancing setup to join a company as CTO. They were secret about their revenue numbers and it turned out I was making 2x their entire mrr before. 😂

people join startups to get a small amount of stock that they hope will 100x sweden impose a law that makes all startups have a 3 year cliff. this means if you are an employee, you will lose ALL your stock in the company if you leave before 3 years has passed people join startups hoping this stock goes to the moon, but if the company stagnatest the employeees are usually forced to stay for another 1-2 years just to get their stocks, even if they don't believe in the company anymore this is highly anti-free markets and significantly slows down innovation, since the best talent will stay locked up into stagnating companies. only very few startups work, so you want people to go between companies as fast as possible if you are building wrapper or saas companies (which is what we are building in sweden)

if sweden removes the obligation for 3 year cliff for startups it will geniunely become a great place to start a company, which finally seems to be happening there is extreme talent, it's just hard to hire when all the good talent is locked up for 3 years

@derinerkan @paleonormie Its roughly equivalent of 10 mile run. However it does not all need to be exercise per se, since the context we are discussing is in manual labor/being active all day. FWIW I have had up to 2000 cal sessions at Muay Thai gym. Its something you build up to.

My son graduated from Reed in mathematics. Worked as a software developer for a startup. Started the R statistics open source group in Portland. Microsoft, Apple, Amazon all recruited him. We never pushed. We read every evening from when he was an infant.

Ryan Holiday isn’t some Stoic guru btw. He’s been doing this for a dozen years and never even bothered to learn Latin or Greek. He made $10 million reading the Stoics in translation then repeating what they say at a 5th grade reading level to sell self-help books at the airport.

I don’t get the hate - Mark Rippetoe never said Starting Strength was a bodybuilding program. Back in the good old days (2012), men lifted to get strong. Today’s obsession with online aesthetics would have seemed totally foreign.

2026 is the year I undo all the damage “Powerlifting” and Mark Rippetoe did to me No man has harmed more young men than Mark. He turned a whole generation of men into fat unaesthetic >30% bodyfat human pears with huge asses and wide birthing hips He is going to hell

I've known people unemployed for months at at a time. How? How is this possible? Are you eating food? What are you buying it with? Do you not pay for lodging? Someone explain this strange magic to me, because I've had to have a job to pay for these things for my whole life.

I have indeed been to Norway — I am Norwegian and lived there for 23 years before moving abroad. I have also lived in the US. And I can tell you that the quality of life is *far* better in Norway than in the US. Any quality of life index would tell you the same.
Dan Eastman@DanEastman2023

If you’ve ever been to Norway you’d realize it’s a very lovely place but the people live very utilitarian lives and there is nowhere near the quality of life you find in the US. It’s a nice, basic place to live with no urban turmoil, an homogeneous culture and not a lot of sunlight…

There are no words to describe the economic failure that is Portugal. It is now almost as poor as Ukraine, a country literally at war. 50 years after a brutal dictatorship, you’d think an economic miracle would’ve followed like Poland and the Baltics. Total incompetence.

No it's not the market. Every company i know is complaining they can't find devs. Most devs I know complain they can't find work. Both of these can not be true. Recruitment, HR and all the recruitment agencies, AI hiring all of that crap is broken. Applying to jobs is broken. Selection is broken. Interviews are completely broken. HR is trash 9.9/10 times.

A senior engineer created a fake junior dev to test hiring advice. The profile had: - good portfolio - active GitHub - senior-level projects - even faked YOE He ran the experiment in the Netherlands, a country known for its developer shortage. Applied to 36 jobs and didn’t get a single interview. The junior dev market is brutal.

@eaglesanalysis1 @BowTiedBull The amount of time, energy, money and overall life that most people waste on sports is astonishing. Obsessing over atrociously overpaid grown men playing a sport is absurd and pathetic. I gave up caring about sports about 8 years ago and it’s been fantastic.
