There is no easy way to compare Tweedledee from Tweedledum, but I find people of the south more inward looking and inhibited. The south is richer by a large measure because the smartest Indians from the north move to the south. Casteism is likely worse in the south.

₹10 over MRP.
Tamil Nadu turned it into a joke, a slogan, a meme.
But TASMAC workers told me that ₹10 is often paying for:
• excess EB bills
• unloading charges
• broken bottles
• cleaners
• freezer repairs
• bottle buy-back staff
One worker’s Class 8 son recently asked him:
“Can you quit TASMAC and drive an auto instead?”
The ₹10 charge is real.
But this story is also about a system that quietly runs on informal money.
