22 institutions from across Northeast India have signed a historic Letter of Intent (LoI) to establish the Northeast India–Japan International Academic and Research Consortium! This includes 8 NITs, 2 IIITs, NERIST, AIIMS Guwahati, NERIWALM, Tezpur University, Gauhati University, Cotton University, and Assam Engineering College. Japan has designated Northeast India as a strategic priority since 2022 (MEXT Inter-University Exchange Project) and the consortium will facilitate 5,000 student exchanges in each direction over the next five years. The initiative will also serve as a gateway for multilateral collaboration in science, technology, and medicine. "This marks a new beginning, as institutions across states unite to form a unique consortium that brings together engineers, medical professionals, scientists, and policymakers." — Prof. Devendra Jalihal, @DirectorIITG. IT Guwahati will serve as the nodal institution in India, with Gifu University coordinating from Japan. By January 2026, our total installed power capacity has more than doubled to 520.5 GW. Of this, non-fossil fuel sources account for 271.97 GW, representing over 52% of the total capacity and surpassing fossil fuel capacity, which stands at 248.5 GW. For the first time in India’s history, non-fossil fuel capacity has exceeded fossil fuel capacity. This is a truly remarkable milestone. Today, our non-fossil, that is renewable, capacity exceeds that of fossil fuels. We should collectively appreciate this national effort. Particularly in 2025, India witnessed its highest-ever expansion in renewable energy. A record 44.51 GW of renewable capacity was added by November alone, even before including the figures for December and January. What happens when a family chooses belief over boundaries? In the quiet lanes of Barmer, Rajasthan, where traditions often speak louder than dreams, Deepu Kanwar was building a future no one could see — studying silently behind her ghoonghat, holding onto a vision much bigger than her circumstances. Married at a young age, and later embracing motherhood, her responsibilities only grew. But so did her determination. What truly set her journey apart wasn’t just her resilience — it was the support she received at home. While many women are expected to pause their ambitions after marriage, Deepu’s father-in-law became her strongest pillar. Whenever she stepped in to help with household chores, he would gently remind her, “Your work is to study.” Her journey wasn’t without setbacks. In 2022, she cleared both prelims and mains but fell short in the interview. In 2023, she tried again, only to stumble at the mains stage. But she didn’t stop. With every failure, her resolve only grew stronger. And finally, her persistence turned into success — she cleared the Gujarat State Judicial Service Examination, securing an All India Rank of 79 and stepping into the courtroom as a civil judge. This isn’t just Deepu’s story. It’s a reminder that when families choose to uplift instead of restrict, they don’t just support dreams — they create history. The Jan Vishwas Bill marks a decisive shift in governance: from control to trust, from criminalisation to compliance, and from litigation to cooperation. By removing imprisonment provisions and converting minor offences into penalties and notices, the bill will protect both citizens and businesses from unnecessary criminal prosecution. For lakhs of entrepreneurs, traders, MSMEs, and professionals, routine compliance errors will no longer carry the threat of criminal prosecution or imprisonment. By rationalising outdated provisions across multiple laws, the reform reduces harassment, cuts litigation and promotes a trust-based regulatory environment. A major step towards the vision of Minimum Government, Maximum Governance under PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s #ReformExpress. Grateful to serve as the chair and contribute to this massive exercise. Accelerating the Future of Advanced Automotive Innovation The Centre of Excellence in Advanced Automotive Research (CAAR), IIT Madras, in collaboration with TIDCO, is working towards establishing the Advanced Automotive Translational Research Centre (AATRC) at Tamil Nadu Knowledge City. Planned across 40,000 sq. ft. of advanced research and laboratory infrastructure, this initiative envisions a ₹200 crore investment over five years to accelerate translational research and product development in next-generation automotive technologies. The centre will focus on electric powertrains, automotive power electronics, battery technologies, EV charging systems, and software-defined vehicles, enabling industry-ready innovation. Expected impact of the initiative: • 40–50 innovative automotive products over five years • Support for 150–200 startups and MSMEs through testing and validation infrastructure • Creation of 50–70 high-skill direct jobs and up to 2,100 ecosystem-linked employment opportunities This collaboration aims to strengthen India’s position as a global hub for advanced EV and automotive technology innovation. @iitmadras @tidco_1965
