When I tell a student I have a concern about AI use I don’t accuse them. I phrase it that way on purpose and make it clear if they wrote the paper they have nothing to worry about. I mean seriously what would you have us do? Just ignore AI plagiarism?

@CoreyWriting That’s not even remotely true for PhDs at top institutions. Now granted the undergrad rankings do not exactly correspond, but the top institutions are still extremely difficult to get accepted to.

Masters and PhDs at elite universities are also way easier to get into than undergrad. An Ivy League masters doesn't really impress many people and they're cash grabs for elite schools. UChicago and Columbia are notorious for expensive masters that do nothing for your career.

@RustyOrgan2021 @QueenMab87 That’s really just not something that happens anymore. Students have a lot of power when it comes to formal accusations of academic dishonesty. In those hearings you will basically be going off of vibes and AI detectors which are basically snake oil.

@QueenMab87 I just tell them I have questions about their report. When they inevitably cannot explain the physics contained within their report, they still deny AI use. However, it does not matter at that point. I have proven you have no idea what you turned in.
