@SecVetAffairs @RapidResponseVA @HouseVetAffairs @VetAffairsOIG SMC denial- VA OIG you made a promise to us Veterans ⚠️ The VA is still using a broken system to underpay catastrophically disabled heroes. A May 2025 VA OIG Report (24-01083-112) confirmed the automated SMC calculator is FLAWED, causing massive underpayments for those entitled to SMC-L through R2. The "Glitch" in Action: 1Circular Denials: VA "re-evaluates" your health instead of doing the OIG-mandated manual audit of their broken math. 2The Incompetency Trap: I filed that for my my 21 year-old autistic son so I could get him special restorative training. I was told by the fiduciary hub in South Carolina. I would had to be found incompetent before my son could get a fiduciary) I did not want this, and I told the fiduciary hub to stop and the claim rep that called me as well, but they added it to my existing claim The VA - Yesterday at the VA I had a brain MRI I was diagnosed with MTS, which is a brain disorder. I uploaded the results from that MRI that same Day Feb-2 yesterday. next day to my supplemental claim this afternoon, received an email that my decision letter is ready was I was not shocked or surprised that everything was denied or is continued I don’t think they’ve looked at anything that I’ve submitted, just ran the calculators the same one that’s broken. 3Siloed Claims: Supplemental claims and HLRs aren't "talking," causing new evidence not to be communicate communicated with each other HLR R2 was denied rightfully, she told that I would definitely qualify for an R 1. VA OIG report dated May 2025 were they clarified that it wasn’t just the legacy system that the SMC was not calculating correctly. It was also the new system. MANUAL AUDIT was promised by the VA and the OIG The individual who rated could not have done manual will review PCOS is entitled to a SMC K. I never received it even back to my first claim 1994. Claim denial note: 19. Evaluation of entitlement to special monthly compensation Entitlement to special monthly compensation was reviewed. All currently service connected disabilities were evaluated, and the previously granted determinations are confirmed as accurate. Therefore, entitlement to special monthly compensation, is continued. (38 CFR 3.350) I received 2 SMC K for my breast cancer I qualify for a lease an SMC L, after reading the VA OIG report I put in a suppleme VA “everything is fine" Me but your SMC math doesn't add up, cite the OIG Report 24-01083-112 do I call the OIG Hotline. The last time I was told they don’t work with dependence. They’re only there for veterans. #Veterans #VATopics #SMC #GulfWarVets #OIGRep you should read that claim you won’t believe it 20 inch scar across my stomach from my breast cancer reconstruction. It’s not compensated. There’s so many other things, but I really thought the VA OIG report and the promise to make it right I think it’s great but if it doesn’t trickle down, what happened to me is gonna keep happening I’ve reached out to you guys multiple times trying to get something fast track my appeal(noted on this current claim the notes- PCOS does not have its own code, that’s not correct that’s supposed to be rated on the Gyn that might be the reason I’m waiting 30 years to have it corrected Why is that a disabled combats veteran, I was able to find these updated laws and regulations? TA VA congressional liaison, say there was nothing they could do for me. I drove two hours with all the paperwork that she refused to look at it Please don’t pass me over to rapid response they’re write me a message and tell me to reach out to them and I never hear back I’m really hoping that the VA OIG keep their promise.

The days of Veterans waiting years for answers are coming to an end. @DeptVetAffairs has reduced the benefits backlog to historic lows and it keeps going down. Veterans stepped up and answered the call, now it’s our turn to ensure VA delivers for them.

Army veteran @RepTomBarrett has gone through the VA disability claims process himself. Veterans don't have time for a bunch of paperwork that takes years and doesn't deliver results — we're building a process alongside @SecVetAffairs that’s efficient and puts veterans first.

@HqRater65803 how can I get a consultation from you guys when it comes to SMC T I'm 100% T&P Gulf War female veteran. Only one of 33,000 that deployed. I was recently diagnosed with an MTS epilepsy, and I know the path of what "" I need to do for this SMC but people at the VA don't seem to believe me Plus, I have a appealing for two years that will go back to 1994 and has to do with PCOS and the SMC that I should've gotten with that as well thank you. I look forward to hearing from you.

@RapidResponseVA you've heard from me before I'm 100% total and permanent combat veteran I've been in a three-year guardianship issue with my adult 21-year-old son father in New York Without any hearings, awarded dead, temporary emergency guardianship while he was not in the state of New York and he was a resident of North Carolina living in a private life skills program New York dad's lawyer facilitated the removed my son from his life skills program. This New York lawyer called the North Carolina Police Department to inform them that even though this order says temporary in the process of being changed to a permanent and if mom tries to stop this, he should have me arrested. They ignored the fact that I my son's permanent VA custodian You have a Suffolk County Supreme Court judge who found me in contempt from a 2008 divorce agreement because I followed my federal obligation But how would she know? She never spoke to me three years only screamed at me. Oh, the ADA accommodation I put in yeah they lost that too I've been told the VA can't help with the state court But let's not forget the federal Supreme Court over ruling Louisiana. I am my son's VA representative by putting a restraint on my person not to move forward in a guardianship case and any other state they blocked how my son's benefits are handled The VA has exclusive jurisdiction over their benefits and beneficiaries My son was removed and brought back to New York, even though he didn't participate in anything in the New York guardianship case he wasn't even in New York when it happened

I'm a mom of an autistic 21 year-old. I'm also 100% total and per combat veteran served in the Gulf war I arrived in Suffolk County New York found guilty of contempt for a 2008 divorce agreement without a hearing Now I need to be prepared to be sentenced and go to jail Why am my son's VA custodian? I moved him when he was 20 to a life skills program in North Carolina. But that agreement said in 2008 he had to graduate high school before I could move. No hearings two years of delay that my son was removed without a proper court order in North Carolina

Fraud waste and abuse First thing that you guys should be doing is looking at your process See how they overlap Example my 21-year-old son with autism needs special restorative training, which is eligible before because I'm 100% totally permanent from the Gulf war But he needs a rating 1st, so they'll go through the entire process of him being found incompetent then send them over to the vocal rehab Why can't the VA take their last IEP? And use that to determine if their helpless, so it speeds up the process IEP is federally mandated it's a waste of time. It's a waste of money for the VA to redo something that's been happening at the dependent school every year to determine if he still qualifies for an IEP.

Republicans put a constitutional amendment on the floor that would force drastic cuts to Social Security and Medicare. Tonight, we defeated their scheme. I will never let them cut your EARNED BENEFITS. We need to expand Social Security by making the wealthy pay their fair share!

I don't disagree with that. I absolutely no income counts. Child support counts income. According to the home community base waiver, they were supposed to wave their parents income So kids that come from divorce families, which is about 80% of couples with autistic children They're not entitled to benefits

A sitting U.S. Senator and DHS Secretary nominee told me he "understood" the violent attack on me from behind. Not condemned it. Not apologized for it. Understood it. He also offered zero apology for his past statements. This is unacceptable.

69 million women have changed their last name after getting married. The SAVE Act would make voting a nightmare for them, because their birth certificate would not match other docs. It's a bad bill that I voted against - the Senate must reject it. usatoday.com/story/news/pol…

The war in Iran has already cost $22.8 billion. For $22.8 billion, we could: • Provide Medicaid to 6.8 million kids • Build 2.6 million public housing units • Fund Head Start for 1.3 million • Hire 240,000 teachers • Cancel $20,000 in student debt for 1 million borrowers

@SecVetAffairs there's a veteran guardianship act that nobody knows about It includes infant, wards or helpless adults dependent The local office of general Council stated they only help veterans not their dependent The VA allowing VA lawyers to participate in a guardianship case in the state is that exclusively just for veterans and not their helpless adult children I've been in a three-year guardianship case in New York

Republicans are lying to the American people when they say the SAVE Act is a voter ID law—it’s a proof-of-citizenship requirement that would make voting harder, if not impossible, for a lot of people. Passports are expensive, documents don’t always match, and the process can be a mess (been there). We should be making voting easier, not adding more hurdles. Democrats can own this by proposing their own bill that accepts a range of IDs, and includes automatic voter registration and Election Day as a national holiday for starters.
