Three weeks ago we had the great honor to host another spectacular gala. THANK YOU ALL who joined us for DRC's 4th Annual ART OF DISABILITY JUSTICE Gala! It was a wonderful night celebrating community, advocacy, and disability joy. We are incredibly grateful to all who were able to join us in-person and virtually. Thank you to our DRC staff, sponsors, partners, board members, interpreters, and honored guests who helped make this night possible. If you would like to relive the night, check out DRC's latest featured story on the gala at the link: disabilityrightsca.org/latest-news/jo… #DisabilityRightsCA #DRCGala2026 #Advocacy #Gala

After five incredible years, last week marked my final day with @Polaris_Project. I’m deeply proud of all we accomplished together, more than I could have imagined. I’m now stepping into a new role as Senior Advisor at @TheUpliftCo, and have paused my lobbying work as I pursue public service. Stay tuned for what’s ahead. For anti-trafficking policy inquiries, please contact policy@polarisproject.org.

In 2024, Disability Rights California joined with several disability and Deaf-led organizations to form the California Disability Leadership Alliance (CDLA). This Alliance works to improve the lives of disabled people in California. CDLA sent a questionnaire to each of the California Gubernatorial candidates on policies and concerns directly impacting people with disabilities. We demand that the next governor of California does better in addressing the real needs of the disability community. Nothing about us without us. In his response Representative Eric Swalwell commits to expand funding for peer support services if elected. DRC advocates for the redirection of critical mental health care resources towards programs like peer support services and away from programs involving courts and mass incarceration of people in need. Will the rest of the gubernatorial candidates commit to changing course in CA mental health policy toward more efficient, effective, and human programs? Stay informed ahead of the coming California gubernatorial primary on June 2, 2026 and CDLA will continue to demand answers from all of the candidates. You can read Representative Swalwell's full responses to the questionnaire at the link: disabilityrightsca.org/latest-news/ca… #DisabilityRightsCA #EricSwalwell #CDLA #Campaign #PeerSupport #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs #Affordability @AVillaraigosa @BettyYeeforCA @ChadBianco @ericswalwell @IanCalderon @katieporterca @SteveHiltonx @TomSteyer @TonyThurmond @XavierBecerra @ButchWare @ramsey4gov @CalVoices @ccb_org @CFILC_1982 @ChoiceinAging @TheCoelhoCenter @DREDF @NFB_voice @NorCalDeafSvcs @ThePaintedBrain

Poverty is disabling. That’s why Carolina Valle, a @DisabilityCA social worker, focuses on building power with people with disabilities to break down the root of barriers like poverty. We’re so grateful for social workers like Carolina! 💪 #SocialWorkMonth

Reached out to me on social media. I never got to meet her in person, it was just social media and she just messaged me, she slid into my DMs in a very friendly way, and she said, hey, I just I follow you on social media, I like libraries, I like that you talk about libraries and literacy. They mean so much to me. I've been seeing some of your tweets and I just want to let you know, I also like basketball, and I'm just really glad that you're alive in the world. Thank you for being you. I'm a stranger. And that wonderful person's name is Alice Wong. And love Alice Wong so so very much. I would like to dedicate this award is very special thing to Alice Wong, to all the disabled library kids, disabled library people, every single person is beautiful, just as they are. I believe that disabled people can be the President of the United States of America can be the President of the United States of America that autistic people, ADHD, anybody who's different, anybody who's feeling othered, no matter what anybody says in the entire world, you can be the President, you can be a librarian, you can be a disability advocate. You can be a teacher. You can be a doctor. You can be a dancer. You can be the next Steph Curry. If you shoot a basketball, there's all sorts of things you can be. You can be anything. You can go anywhere. I’m honored to be the host of Reading Rainbow, and I hope that one day we can do our best to make sure that every single person, every single kid, is reflected on that beautiful show. And again, I dedicate this night to Alice Wong and every single one of you. I love you and I'm so proud of you. I’m so happy. Thank you for inviting me here tonight.
