@joanne_sansome This is an event I’ve been waiting my whole life to watch. I’ve never fascinated by space, the moon & the night sky since I was tiny. We can achieve great things if the will is there and we work together instead of against each other.

The Artemis ll mission has brought a lovely piece of humanity to the lunar surface by naming one of the features in honour of Reid Wiseman’s late wife Carroll. It was incredibly touching the see them all wiping away tears as it was being suggested to Mission Control.
NASA@NASA

To commemorate the Artemis II mission, the astronauts announced their suggestion to rename certain features on the Moon to honor the Orion spacecraft, named Integrity, as well as commander Reid Wiseman's late wife, Carroll.

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known. - Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space

Safety nets do not stop people working. They stop people dying, collapsing, becoming homeless, and giving up. And sometimes, they give people just enough safety to try again.

This just had to be bought today. Granted I would of preferred the full version but paying over £200 for a Lego is just indefensible. I just settled for the £40 version.

@C_Fitz_ Disadvantaged and vulnerable people always seem to be at the bottom of political thinking. This past week has certainly proven that loud and clear. Really sorry to hear about your sister, I hope something gets sorted out for her.

Another way our people have been failed by politics. Following Brexit and the end of the ESF, my sister with LD lost access to supported employment. Her support worker was incredible - now following a botched job by the UK Gov & NI Exe the whole org is closing.
Action Mental Health@amhNI

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund has ended. Its replacement brings £15.8m less- a 64% cut. 11,000 people will miss vital support, 400+ jobs will go, and pressures on health services will rise. This political failure has real consequences. People in Northern Ireland deserve better.

@joanne_sansome @FosterRoisin Many of NASA’s technologies become used in everyday life. Some examples are: CAT scans Home Insulation Air purifiers Water purification systems Artificial limbs Memory foam mattress. LED’s. It’s also led to GPS, modern communication technology and climate/weather advancements.

@FosterRoisin @MarkYoung23 I totally get your valid points… many things would be different in this world if it was a kinder place…however, hopefully the learning will pay off via advancements for the future of humanity…
