@michael_merrick You’re definitely not alone. Your situation will resonate with many. Loneliness tends to be different for each of us. So the way out of it is not easy. We build bonds through shared experiences. Doing things together usually helps. Check out @maxdickins book ‘Billy No Mates’

So an open offer - if this has hit a nerve with you, I’d say: reach out. It doesn’t have to be me, but if you want to my DMs are open. I don’t have a plan or any answers, but I can listen and at the very least chew the cud. And if you’re local I’ll meet you for a beer some day.

Thirdly, this genuinely scares the sh*t out of me. Lots of blokes know someone who has been here. I don't have the words for it.

A heart-breaking moment saved in an SS picture of deportations of Hungarian Jews at Auschwitz II-Birkenau. It was taken 79 years ago, most likely in late May 1944. A little child found a dandelion in the grass and is handing it or showing it to an older boy. All the people in this picture were waiting to be killed in gas chamber. @wrobinson101 Great programme, @wrobinson101 Reality is that #ageism exists everywhere. And it’s our responsibility to challenge. @Ageing_Better have some excellent resources on this issue. Often fear by (younger) employers creates barriers. Empowering managers is central to overcoming this

If just a portion of the £billions spent on the NHS were redirected towards a network of 'Staying well at home' 'hubs' fusing advice & navigation, community nursing, occupational & physiotherapy, adaptations & smart tech, home-based support, counselling, circles....

@JustMeandLilley Isn’t the key to maintain the connections you have - and try to build on these? Not easy! Community alarms are effective and bring peace of mind. It’s very likely that you’ll never need to press the pendant in an emergency. I also suggest you install a key safe (they are ‘safe’)

I am in my 70s and rarely feel it nor have bothered much about #age. But, after my 'dizzy do' yesterday, I realise how #vulnerable one can be when #elderly and #alone. I should've prepared more. #Ageing , alone, without #children. Ideas, anyone? #Communities - we can do it.
