Update. Cuff rotators all fine. I have inflammation of a tendon sheath, probably caused by over-extending. May need an injection but should get well

One of the joys of later life is learning the names of things when they stop working. Having a scan on a cuff rotator injury tomorrow

A deer has substantially rearranged the front of my car. Which is annoying, inconvenient and expensive. It ran off

@s1eve Our three descriptions of quality of baking are OK for guests, OK for family and OK with custard. The family always cheer when I inadvertently make the last as cake with custard is their favourite.

@Suchmo83 Turning Pages is an adults’ phonics programme used by Read Easy and Shannon Trust to teach adults and I have found it excellent for tutoring teenagers with reading difficulties or delay. Well worth looking at. Available from Shannon Trust.

I'm keen to learn about phonics programmes that are used in *secondary schools*, in particular how these programmes support teaching assistants or teachers to teach using the programme. If you have any relevant information or recommendations, let me know! RTs appreciated!

@DanMundayNG @bettymunday That really is a tricky combo. Will be praying that the 7 year old has a fun day and the inspection sees the fab support children get at your school.

Truly doing the working parent juggle with Ofsted and a 7th birthday today. Not often I’m waking them up early on their birthday to open their presents…

@pastortilley @uk_timwilson @PaulDistilled Also, a musician who listens to the congregation and plays sympathetically with them rather than dogmatically leading them - sometimes people are used to singing slower or faster than the musician.

@pastortilley @uk_timwilson @PaulDistilled Sometimes it helps to teach songs. Also singing songs with a clear chorus with an easy tune helps people feel part of the worship and is helpful for those with reading difficulties or English as a an additional language. Songs with bridges are tricky for those not in the know.

@PeteGreig A lady called Miss Willetts who faithfully ran a Crusaders group every week near my home was responsible for awakening my faith. I grieve thanks for her loving care.

On #AllSaintsDay I celebrate the life of an unknown soldier called Jimmy Cox, shot down and killed over Tobruk, Africa on April 28 1941. I wonder who it is for you? This old photo is the only connection I have with the man who led my dad to Jesus at Oxford uni many years ago…

@redcurrant101 I think, if possible, having choices so that the group work types can do some of that with a possibility of opting out and doing something quiet on your own works well. Easier for some subjects, I guess.

expecting 14yr old me to do any kind of group work would have (and did) result in flag refusal/my playing up to get myself removed… I was a straight A* student all the way through school. We don’t get mentioned much in educational discourse, but we do exist!

Yay for nights spent dancing for the first time since pre-Covid; but home to a feed containing a plethora of views on what makes a good lesson. Just for the record, whilst I’m happy to use all sorts of activities in my lesson… 1/2

@samhwilson Absolutely. If the church wants quality people who are going to do the job for some years or a whole career, they need to give the sort of pay that can support families and pay for somewhere decent to live

A THREAD : Important books / research / resources for those involved in youth work. Not all of these are specifically about work with 11-18s - I believe we're a "community of practice" drawing on research / books that inform us about children's ministry and work with young adults
