The law is clear, SAPS members may not own or operate taxis. There are no exceptions. This is not a small administrative issue. SAPS is expected to police taxi violence, extortion, organised crime and related disputes. A police officer cannot have a financial stake in the very industry they are meant to enforce the law against. I have written to the National Commissioner requesting urgent action. Where these allegations are proven, members must not only be disciplined and dismissed, criminal cases must be opened. They must be arrested, charged and, where the evidence supports it, convicted. Public trust in policing depends on integrity, accountability and consequences. IC

From being behind a decade ago, Cape Town now clearly leads Joburg in getting more residents into work. ✅ Meanwhile, Joburg's decline means LESS job opportunities. 💔 Cape Town is fast becoming SA’s jobs capital, with near-record low unemployment. This is not luck. This is what happens where voters choose the DA to govern. 🇿🇦 We can get SA’s cities working for all!

The love of money is the root of all evil 🕊️🕊️🕊️Five individuals met an untimely end in Kruger National Park after being shot by rangers while engaged in an unsanctioned rhino horn Poaching. The gentlemen had already successfully shot down two rhinos and were in the process of harvesting the horn from one when they themselves were abruptly "harvested" by the park's anti-poaching unit.

DA condemns the senseless vandalism of the historic Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Braamfontein. On 14 May, a young man allegedly stormed the altar of this sacred 1938 church, violently destroying marble statues of the archangels and damaging the altar while shouting profanities. Holy Trinity has been a beacon of faith and community since 1897. This is not only an attack on a place of worship it is an attack on our shared cultural and religious heritage. Leanne De Jager MPL says such acts of religious desecration cannot be tolerated. The DA calls on law enforcement to urgently apprehend the suspect and apply the full force of the law. We stand with the faith community and all South Africans who value tolerance and respect for sacred spaces. The DA remains committed to protecting our religious, cultural, and historical heritage. #DAatWork #RescueSA #DA_GPL #ProtectOurHeritage #ReligiousTolerance #Braamfontein @DAljdj Read more: open.substack.com/pub/dagpl/p/da…

Extract from the debate with Manyi (full video published earlier, and link below). It seems to me that Manyi wants Zulu self-governance while opposing Afrikaner self-governance. The way to do this is to pretend that the one isn't self-determination and the other is. Thoughts?

Eskom and the ANC clowns running SA: You’re not a utility, you’re a looting operation with power lines. Taxpayers bail you out while your execs balloon staff costs from R35bn to R43bn in one year, R3.7bn incentives + R800m bonuses, for what? Keeping the lights off? Technically insolvent by R50bn, Deloitte flags fake “savings” and criminal bookkeeping, yet you announce a fake “profit” like it’s a victory lap. Private company? Liquidated yesterday. Instead you’re a zombie parasite sucking the sovereign dry. The “handshake” sale is a scam, R400bn wouldn’t even cover your debts. Just another taxpayer funeral. Fire the board, jail the looters, or admit you’re running a failed state. References: Eskom FY2025 Annual Results: Payout and employee cost data. Deloitte Audit Report FY2025: Qualified opinion and misstatements. AGSA Briefing: Asset vs liability gap and insolvency. National Treasury: Debt relief and shareholder loan conversions. A tiny Karoo town is about to become South Africa’s next billion-rand export story. Prieska. Population ~14,000. The middle of nowhere. In the 90s, the IDC poured R130 million into pistachios there. Climate was perfect. Vision was huge. By 2011 they called it a failure, sold the equipment, and walked away. Two farmers refused to quit. The Mullers spent 15 brutal years mastering what institutions couldn’t: pollination, varieties, processing. They built Karoo Pistachios and the Desert Emerald brand. Last year: 20 tons. Next decade target: 60,000 tons. South Africa now chasing 5-8% of the global market. Selling at R613/kg, and rising fast as Iran stumbles. Lesson for every deep-pocketed investor: The biggest opportunities aren’t where capital flows. They’re where capital gave up. Conviction beats committees. Every. Single. Time. The Mullers didn’t invent pistachios. They just refused to bury a dream everyone else abandoned.

Severe weather conditions continue to affect parts of the Western Cape, with residents urged to travel only if absolutely necessary due to strong winds, dangerous sea conditions and ongoing storm damage. Video footage from York Street in George earlier today showed the impact of the adverse weather (via Mossel Bay Municipality).

I just finished an interview with Brad from Across Nigeria… and honestly, I’m sitting here stunned. Today, he buried 14 Christians in a mass grave. Two were infants. One was a 4-year-old child. And this isn’t some recycled internet story or political talking point. Brad was literally there today helping bury them. While on the way to investigate one attack, another Christian community was attacked. He said the violence is happening so fast they can barely keep up anymore. What shocked me even more is this: Brad shared that 72% of all Christians killed worldwide last year were killed in this region of Nigeria. 72%. And hardly anybody is talking about it. The mainstream media should be all over this. Instead, most people scrolling social media today have no idea our brothers and sisters in Christ are being slaughtered while churches are being forced underground. Guys… this matters. Please watch this interview. Please pray for these families. And PLEASE share this everywhere you can. At this point, WE are the media. WE are how people find out. WE are the distribution network. If enough ordinary people start sharing the truth, eventually the world will have to pay attention. Watch the full conversation and help us get this story out.

TREASURY WARNING: The last three paragraphs of the Finance Minister’s letter to Jhb Mayor, Dada Morero, are hugely significant… “The City signed an agreement with the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) in November 2025 committing to R10.3 billion in salary increases over the next two years to address a wage dispute. Given that the City is in financial distress, it is unclear how it intends to fund these salary increases over the MTREF. Taking into cognizance the current state of finances using the creditors and cash equivalents as a matrix, you have committed the City into a financial obligation that is not possible to fulfil. Of concern is that this decision is a direct transgression of MFMA and budget and reporting regulations. You are requested to indicate what measures will be implemented and how this violation will be arrested or reversed. You are hereby directed to stop proceeding with the implementation of this illegally signed agreement that has the potential to destroy the sustainability of the City of Johannesburg beyond this term of Office as well as the negative impact on the national economy at large. Secondly, not only is your Adjustments Budget not funded in terms of Section 18 of the MFMA, but you very well know the City cannot afford this agreement.”
Katy Katopodis@KatyKatopodis

BREAKING: Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana sends a scathing letting to Jhb Mayor, Dada Morero. Some key issues / concerns from Treasury: “The adjustments budget was assessed by National Treasury to be unfunded; revenue collection was overstated while expenditure was understated” “The understating of expenditure will mostly result in unauthorised expenditure by June 2026 which will put further financial strain on the municipality.” “The outstanding amount owed to creditors has increased from R17 billion in 2022/23 to R25.2 billion in 2024/25.” “The city’s cash and cash equivalent of R3.9 billion in 2024/25 is insufficient to repay outstanding creditors of R25.2 billion.” “This is a marker of severe financial distress, indicating that the city does not have the liquidity required to pay its creditors.” Read the full letter below ⬇️
