@martin_casado entertainment is fat tailed, but what constitutes utility/quality of life changes every generation, across societies… then entertainment moves into quality of life domain… then we fight over it coz we can’t have enough of it

What happens in a world where it's dramatically faster and cheaper to generate something good, but not what you want?

Controversial (for other reasons) neuroscientist Robert Heath found long ago that given the option to self stimulate different brain areas to experience different feelings most people opt to stimulate areas that evoke feelings of mild frustration & anger. Arousal is reinforcing.

@AravSrinivas does it matter if it’s another browser download or a general app download? assuming you’re building populat apps already, why anchor it on the prevailing browser paradigm?

What are some good ways to create strong incentives incentives (beyond just the core product of working agents, AI-search, battery saver, less cluttered web pages, less spam in search results and warnings for spammy sites, etc) for people to stop using Chrome (entirely)? Edge does this "buy cheaper tickets" / Bing rewards thing - which is probably not strong enough for retention. Have some ideas, but would like to hear more.

Who should I interview on my podcast that fits the archetype of Sarah Paine or David Reich or Adam Brown? Obscure scholars who have deep insight into overlooked but utterly captivating fields.

after i got oauth working with an Streamable HTTP MCP Server and Client, i seem to have landed in a world with no dimensions, total imagination zone… like what if you had a ‘thinking’ calculator, what could you think up if you had 200 slightly smarter versions of you?

Blackstone is now down 40% from its November highs, and is right back at its post-Liberation Day lows. Remember, this is probably the best run manager of private assets in the world, so just consider how your run of the mill PE or VC shop is looking right now.

two years is a long time to learn a new skill, right? but it just occurred to me that ‘think step by step’ is an instruction meant for me to make the model do stuff, not for the model… 🤦‍♀️

confession: vide coding feels a lot like drunk coding, unbridled eagerness mixed with brain farts that don't take the basic/most obvious context into account meanwhile, my husband, the sane one, is left cleaning up after me...

@ByrneHobart could embracing the contradiction be a good approach to good decision making? (regardless how of its entertainment value)

I don't know how well it will ultimately work, but it's definitely an entertaining approach to government.

Trump is a big believer in a powerful executive branch, and implicitly believes that the best source of checks and balances within that model is to have all the details taken care of by staffers with contradictory worldviews who all hate each other.
Joe Weisenthal@TheStalwart

People keep thinking that someone will eventually get fired or pushed aside. Lutnick, Navarro, Musk etc. This assumes that Trump doesn't embrace the contradiction. Struggle is the only constant!

@levie what benefits of control do you mean? (compared to other available open weight models) are you aware of any major app using the llama family? ps: i’m a fan of open weight models, just not sure if there’s sufficient ‘pull’ yet

Wow. Meta just launched its new Llama 4 open-weight model family. Pretty incredible cost/performance. Up to 10M token context windows. We're reaching the point where you're not paying a penalty with open models, but you get all the benefits control. Pretty incredible.

i don't really understand tarriff math people are citing - someone explain it to me if there is a 50% tarrif doesn't that mean if you sell something for $100 people are saying the price will be $150 - but shouldn't the ideal price be $200 to still earn $100? old price = (new price) - (new price * 0.50) 100 = x - (x * 0.50) x = 200 so 50% tarrif would need 100% increase if they want to absorb $0?

@CharlieShrem am i allowed to say that we're on the path to devaluing the dollar, and it might be a good thing? (reduces cost of servicing debt, etc.) meanwhile, tariffs are just move on the board to invite others to also devalue their currencies? and lower their interests?

Tariffs are not the story! Since Trump took office in Jan 2025, the 10-year yield has dropped from 4.79% to 4.17%. Look how much it’s dropped today! That 0.62% drop may not sound like much—until you realize the U.S. has $36.5 trillion in debt. This is stealth refinancing on a historic scale. Lower yields = trillions in interest savings. More breathing room. Less inflationary pressure. And the market is front-running it. Everyone’s watching tariffs. But this yield curve shift? It’s the real game. Trump isn’t just cutting spending— he’s restructuring America’s balance sheet in real time.

@zerohedge devaluing isn't necessarily a bad thing if it's over-valued, right? might we say the dollar needs a devaluation too? could help with our debt servicing costs? they do need monetary easing, but they got a lot of savings which the US treasuries have soaked up historically

China has three options: 1. Concede defeat to whatever terms Trump demands 2. Devalue the yuan by 20-40% 3. Unleash biggest fiscal stimulus in its history (talking $2-3 trillion) which will push its debt off the chart
