The truth about breast-feeding and breast cancer Is it true that 1 in 20 breast cancers could be prevented by breast feeding? This was a statement lifted from the Lancet Breast Cancer Commission Report published yesterday - but it’s a global estimate that assumes EVERY woman in EVERY country has an average of 6 children and breastfeeds them for 1-2 years. The facts - breastfeeding one child for 12 months reduces your lifetime risk of breast cancer by 4% That’s a drop from 17% to 16.4% - so the actual impact is small. The Report wants to increase breast-feeding education and support globally as en masse this will reduce the numbers of breast cancer - but you don’t need to feel guilty if you didn’t breastfeed for that long or didn’t have children If you want to find out your own individual risk of breast cancer, check out the iPrevent tool - iprevent.net.au Thanks to @CuiWanda @TheLancet @BreastCancerNow

Hey @KLM how come we’re stuck on a hot Schipol tarmac in an overcrowded bus without a word of explanation about why we’re not boarding our flight to Valencia?

Still sad about Paul Sartin ... and I expect I will be for the rest of my life. That's what happens when someone dies that you think will be with you for the rest of your life. It doesn't get any easier.

@ChrisCord57 @VictoriaCoren My dad died suddenly at 54. Miss having an adult relationship with him. Miss him meeting my kids. So sad for him. A lovely fun and kind dad. Went for a pizza on his 100th just to mark it. Don’t think he ever tasted pizza 😂

Today would’ve been my father’s 85th birthday. It’s a strange feeling. His would’ve-been-75th was sad, but this one isn’t so much because I think he would NEVER have made 85. RIP ❤️

@carolyngarritt No obvious side effects for me on 5 years of tamoxifen followed by 5 years of letrozole. Always took them at night. Good luck 💕

Right then, ER+ breast cancer folks your best advice please. I start letrozole today & would really value any help on best time of day to take it, best way to combat side effects (I think I’ve already got exercise sorted💪) things to avoid that would interfere etc. V big TIA

@Liz_ORiordan When diagnosed 10 years ago, I was told I’d be on AI’s for 10 years and that there was no evidence to suggest any longer was of benefit. Done 6 years of tamoxifen and 4 of letrozole. Hope to be signed off at my next appt which is very soon 🥳

Is the breast cancer index test being used in the UK to guide 5 vs 10 years of hormone blocking for ER+ cancers?

First day as a Deputy Head today. I am not saying I am tired but I did just decide that the quickest and least messy way to take out a 6ft Christmas tree was through the living room window. For those of you still wondering: it isn't.

At Tenbury Wells yesterday, for the first of the two mistletoe auctions this year. Masses of mistletoe there, though less holly than usual. I was also left with the impression there were fewer buyers and sellers than normal, but that’s difficult to mistletoediary.com/masses-of-mist…

#allwoman is about positive body images and the amazing women living flat after mastectomy. Here is Mary: “Getting married this summer after a hasty courtship of 18 years! Almost exactly 10 years after I found my lump in 2012. We had a beautiful day, just a tadge windy” #BCAM
