I’m so glad I don’t work anymore because back in the day we didn’t have all this woke nonsense, you could say whatever you wanted & nobody took offence. People had different opinions but you all got on with it & nobody cared. It must be awful now to have to work in environments where you have to watch everything you say so as not to upset anyone. I wouldn’t have lasted 5 minutes because I say what I think. Back then everyone just accepted it & got on with it. What a weird world we now live in.

Feni, Bangladesh. April 2019. Nusrat Jahan Rafi was an 18-year-old student at a madrasa, an Islamic school, in Feni, Bangladesh. In late March 2019, her principal, Siraj Ud Daula, called her into his office and sexually harassed her by touching her without her consent. There had already been allegations about his behaviour, but many people believed it was better to stay quiet than accuse a powerful man. Nusrat refused to stay quiet. She went to the police. What happened next should have protected her. Instead, the police officer recording her complaint filmed her without her permission. The video was later leaked online. In it, Nusrat is crying and trying to hide her face while the officer tells her it is "not a big deal" and urges her to stop crying. The leaked video exposed her identity and caused public outrage over how victims of sexual violence were being treated. Something had happened. And it was about to get much worse. Siraj Ud Daula was arrested. But according to investigators, he began planning revenge from inside jail. Police said he worked with supporters, including two local political leaders, two teachers, and several of Nusrat's classmates, to stop her from testifying. Their message was simple. Withdraw the complaint, or face the consequences. On 6 April 2019, despite her family's fears, Nusrat returned to school to sit her exams. A classmate told her another student was being attacked on the rooftop and needed help. When she got there, there was no one to rescue. Five people, dressed in burqas to hide their identities, were waiting for her. They demanded that she withdraw her complaint against the principal. She refused. They tied her hands and feet with a scarf, poured kerosene over her body, and set her on fire. Investigators later said they planned to make her death look like suicide. Despite suffering terrible burns, Nusrat stayed conscious long enough to tell her brother who had attacked her. While being taken to hospital, he recorded her naming those responsible. She also left behind one final message: «"The teacher touched me. I will fight this crime till my last breath."» On 10 April 2019, Nusrat died from burns covering more than 80 percent of her body. Her death shocked Bangladesh. Thousands of people demanded justice. The public anger became so intense that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina personally promised Nusrat's family that everyone responsible would be brought to justice. The investigation moved quickly under intense public pressure. In October 2019, just 62 days after the trial began, a court sentenced 16 people to death. Those convicted included the principal who ordered the attack from prison, two local political leaders, two teachers, and eleven students, including two girls who had once studied alongside Nusrat. The police officer who filmed and leaked her statement was later removed from his position for his handling of the case. Outside the courthouse, Nusrat's mother said no punishment could erase what had been done to her daughter, but justice had finally been served. Nusrat went to the police believing the law would protect her. Instead, it cost her her life. But her courage, and her final words, forced an entire nation to confront what had happened and ensured that the people who tried to silence her would never be forgotten. If speaking up costs you everything, does that mean you should have stayed silent, or does it mean the world around you needed to change?

The Health and Social Care visa has been a monumental scam, with visa holders bringing extraordinary numbers of dependants who often do not work themselves. Between March 2025 and 2026 - that is, AFTER Labour told us 'Enforcement will be tougher than ever and migration numbers will fall' - the figures were:  Ghana: 257 Health and Care Worker (H&C) visas, 2,131 dependants.  Bangladesh: 139 H&C visas, 747 dependants.  India: 2,395 H&C visas, 10,504 dependants.  These same pattern shows up across a wide range of nationalities: for every health and care worker who may reduce the strain on our health system, we get between 3 and 10 dependants who increase it. According to the government's own figures, dependants associated with Health and Care Worker visa applicants incur, on average, a net lifetime fiscal burden almost TWICE that of British citizens.  Mass migration does not support our public services, it crushes them.  Yet the uniparty continues to make arguments it knows are lies, all in service of ensuring the floodgates remain open. Reform will end this scam, abolish ILR and reverse the Boriswave.

Axios' Hans Nichols tells us what he's hearing on the Hill: The House environment favors the Dems. The terrain favors Republicans. The same is broadly true on the Senate side — except the structural advantages are even greater for Republicans. THE HOUSE: Currently 218 Rs, 212 Ds, 1 independent and 4 vacancies. Why Democrats are upbeat: The polls. The latest Fox News poll has Democrats ahead by 7 points on the generic ballot. Toss in Democratic enthusiasm — and Democratic candidates outperforming 2024 nominee Kamala Harris in the vast majority of special elections — and you can see why House Republicans are privately so nervous. The cost of living. Yes, inflation has cooled. But prices have risen during the first two years of President Trump's current term, and that's especially true on the one billboard everyone sees — gas prices. The real political gift for Democrats is the direct link between $4 gasoline and the unpopular war in Iran that Trump launched. Why Republicans are cautiously optimistic: Redistricting. Add up all the mid-cycle redistricting in nine states, squint through a Republican lens, and you'll see nine new GOP seats. This brings us to the final wildcard of the Democratic primary season: the Aug. 4 showdown between Rep. Haley Stevens and progressive insurgent Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan. Stevens' money advantage is staggering — $50 million to $1 million on the PAC front in the last two months. And yet the race is tied in the polls.
