The nationalization crisis, National Front political experiment, TPAJAX, and post-coup settlement are complex; it's very difficult to do them justice in a single thread. While it's not true that Mosaddeq fell through US action alone, it is equally untrue to say that the US had no hand in his removal. For more, see: uncpress.org/9781469671666/…

The U.S. did NOT overthrow a democratically-elected government in Iran in 1953. Stop allowing this false narrative to go unchallenged. 🧵1/11

See a woman walking alone to her car? Step up quietly: • Abolish overly restrictive zoning regulations • Get rid of parking requirements • Advocate for dense, mixed-used development • Build bike lanes and sidewalks lined with trees That way, she has a walkable neighborhood.

@El_Daverino @scottbraddock Again, it is their money regardless of how much money you think they have or how much money you think is wealthy. Public schools have plenty of money.

Well, what do you know? *76%* of Texas school voucher applications come from families whose children are not enrolled in public schools. Less than 1% of public and charter school families have applied for vouchers. It's straight up welfare for the wealthy #txlege

Waymo & Uber are cooked 💀 Tesla robotaxi users are reporting autonomous rides in Austin for as low as 1.49$ for a half a mile ride and 5$ for a 30 minute ride. Humans can’t compete with this.

When I was growing up in the 1980s, If an American-born-and-raised athlete had taken millions of dollars to compete for the Soviet Union in the Olympics, there would have been no question of numerous media puff-pieces like this-- the only question would be whether he/she could walk down the street safely. And we'd be planning to strip their citizenship and deport that person ASAP. Now, Eileen Gu does this for our greatest geopolitical rival (China) and the media acts like this is somehow normal. Look, I'd never, ever do it, but there are edge cases where someone who could never compete for the U.S. team competes for somewhere else where they may be eligible for citizenship. Or an athlete who might be able to compete for the U.S. competes for another country that is not OUR BIGGEST GEOPOLITICAL RIVAL. I can wrap my head around that, even if I strongly disagree with it. But this is someone born, raised and trained in America, who could have competed for America, instead choosing to take millions of $ to give honor and glory to our authoritarian rival. It's an unthinkable betrayal of our country, and the fact that so much of our media has normalized it is a sign of major decline and decadence, at least among our "elites."

Freeskiing’s all-time gold medal leader Eileen Gu says that the way that she thinks allows her to become exactly who she wants to be. "How empowering is that?" @charlotteharpur asked Gu about it.

Early State of the Union summary from a fact-check perspective: Less lying than in a totally-off-script Trump speech, but still a lot of lying. The economy was the single subject with the largest number of false and misleading claims.

The Citrini essay includes a paragraph about an industry I know something about. Redfin tried to do this exact business model (bare-bones buy-side agent who rebates 2/3 of the 3% fee) and consumers hated it. I see no reason to think an AI version will work better.

"We analysed 40,000 public social media posts on LinkedIn and Facebook, all in English, comparing what the same accounts were publishing a few years ago with what they post today. The short story: most people have stopped writing their own posts. Roughly 9 out of 10 posts we analysed from late 2024 onwards were generated largely or entirely by AI."
