Dear Mt Kenya. There were 3 by elections today. UDA won all three. 100% performance. I will keep reminding you even if you do not like it. William Ruto wil be re-elected without a single Mt Kenya vote. There will be crying and gnashing of teeth

EPRA ENDS KENYA POWER MONOPOLY — WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU, THE CONSUMER 🔓 THE BIG SHIFT 🫆EPRA has gazetted regulations opening up the electricity market, allowing private sector investors to participate in power distribution — ending decades of Kenya Power’s monopoly 🫆The regulations will set the stage for producers such as KenGen to sell power directly to large consumers like factories, bypassing Kenya Power 🫆The move is outlined in the Energy (Electricity Market, Bulk Supply, and Open Access) Regulations — operationalising provisions of the Energy Act, 2019 🏭 WHO BENEFITS FIRST 🫆KenGen, which accounts for at least 60% of electricity supplied to Kenya Power annually, had since 2020 planned to start direct sales — targeting large customers who account for over half of Kenya Power’s electricity revenue 🫆Private firms can utilise Kenya Power and KETRACO’s extensive networks for electricity distribution upon payment of wheeling (transmission) charges — reducing barriers to entry ⚠️ THE WORLD BANK WARNING 🫆The World Bank has pointed to weaknesses in governance, particularly in power purchasing agreements, as a key factor driving Kenya’s persistently high electricity tariffs 🫆The Bank warned against a free market without proper safeguards — and the concern remains valid 💸 THE BIG IRONY—BILLS ARE STILL RISING 🫆Even as the monopoly ends, Kenyans are paying more right now: ✅EPRA introduced three supplementary charges for April 2026 — a Foreign Exchange Fluctuation Adjustment of 123.41 cents/kWh, a WRMA water levy, and a Fuel Energy Cost Charge of 347 cents/kWh ✅The forex adjustment alone reflects exchange-related costs of over KSh1.3 billion recorded in March 2026 ✅Turkana County tops the expensive power zones at KSh255.48/kg diesel, followed by Lamu at KSh251.58 and Homa Bay at KSh238.24 — remote areas bear the heaviest burden 🔍 THE TAKEAWAY FOR CONSUMERS …🫆The open access model will enable industrial and commercial consumers to choose electricity suppliers from a competitive market — creating pressure on power companies to lower costs and improve service 🫆But competition without oversight risks price spikes for residential consumers who remain on the national grid 🫆@KenyaPower loses its big commercial clients — the cross-subsidy model that kept household tariffs lower collapses 🫆The monopoly is ending. But the bills aren’t dropping yet. 🇰🇪 #KenyaPower #EPRA #EnergyReform #KOX

🇰🇪 H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto arrives in Kigali with a message the continent has been waiting for. 🔙 Just days ago in Nairobi, co-hosting the Africa Forward Summit alongside President Emmanuel Macron, Kenya's Head of State drew a line under decades of donor logic and called for something far more ambitious: an Africa that finances Africa. He pointed to over 4 trillion dollars in long-term domestic savings already sitting on the continent, including more than 1 trillion in pension and insurance assets and over 500 billion dollars in central bank reserves, and asked the only question that matters. Why are these resources still waiting for someone else's permission to build the continent? 💡 His answer is structural. Through Kenya's National Infrastructure Fund, already capitalised at around 1 billion dollars, he is testing a model designed to crowd private capital into the corridors, ports, energy systems and digital backbones that will turn the AfCFTA from protocol into market. The thesis is unambiguous: "Africa cannot trade effectively with itself while its economies remain disconnected." 🌍 In Kigali, that same conviction lands at the heart of the Africa CEO Forum 2026 conversation, where pan-African ownership, green industrialisation and the mobilisation of domestic capital are no longer side debates but the main stage. From the Silicon Savannah he has helped engineer to the climate finance reform he has pushed through every multilateral forum that will listen, President Ruto embodies a generation of African leadership that has stopped asking and started building. 🎯 His presence on the presidential panel sets the tone for two days that will define how the continent moves from 4 trillion dollars in potential to 4 trillion dollars in motion. 📍 Kigali, 14-15 May 2026. 👉 Discover the full programme: theafricaceoforum.com/forum-2026/en/ #ACF2026 #AfricaCEOForum

President Emmanuel Macron: Thank you for your warm welcome. I am pleased to come back to Nairobi seven years after my first official trip to your country, and it was the first visit ever of a French president, which was crazy to imagine. The past seven years have been a journey. We did a lot together, and we increased our relationships from a bilateral point of view

If the High Court overturns the impeachment of Hon Rigathi Gachagua, then he will automatically resume his office and Prof Kithure Kindiki will by operation of law vacate office. Come 2027 and Gachagua will be H.E William Ruto's running mate 🤣🤣🤣...very interesting times ahead.

The claim by @rigathi Gachagua that the Social Health Authority (SHA) is a 'KSh 104 billion monster' designed to defraud Kenyans is false. There is NO KSh 104 billion being paid by government for this system. What exists is a Special Permitted Procurement (SPP) arrangement with a consortium led by @SafaricomPLC, supporting the entire Universal Health Coverage (UHC) ecosystem, not just SHA. This includes digitizing critical health agencies such as KEMSA, PPB, KMPDC, DHA and over 6,500 public health facilities, alongside nationwide connectivity for hospitals from Level 2 to Level 6. The platform integrates 38 systems and over 100 subsystems, delivered under a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model. This means government avoids heavy upfront costs and instead pays based on actual usage, which is a standard global practice. These costs are sustainably financed through user charges, not direct exchequer funding. This framework is supported by law through gazetted Digital Health Regulations and the entire process underwent judicial scrutiny and was upheld in HCCHRPET/E513/2024 (Okiya Omtatah Okoiti vs. Cabinet Secretary for Health).

The sewer system currently serving Nairobi was constructed in 1970 and has long outgrown its capacity. As the City expands, the aging infrastructure can no longer meet demand, forcing many residents to resort to unsafe waste disposal into the river; an option that has exposed communities to serious health risks. In response, the Government has initiated the construction of a modern sewer network designed to match the needs of the rapidly growing capital and its surrounding regions. At the heart of the Nairobi River Regeneration Programme is the development of twin trunk sewer lines stretching approximately 28 kilometres along both banks of the river corridor. The system runs across key sections from Naivasha Road to Museum Hill, through Dagoretti and Chiromo via Kirichwa Kubwa and onward to Dandora Falls. Upon completion, it will handle up to 310 million litres of wastewater daily, serving areas such as Westlands, Lavington, Kangemi, Kawangware and Kikuyu, significantly easing pressure on existing infrastructure. This effort is being implemented alongside the Climate WorX initiative, which focuses on cleaning the river, reclaiming riparian land and restoring the ecosystem through tree planting. The construction has created employment for over 1,000 people on-site, with thousands of other youth engaged in sanitation and environmental restoration, demonstrating how climate action can be effectively aligned with job creation. The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration plays a critical coordinating role in the project, ensuring seamless collaboration among agencies, safeguarding public order and supporting environmental conservation efforts.
