Many congratulations to Justin Rose on a remarkable playoff victory at the PGA TOUR’s FedEx St Jude Championship. No doubt yesterday he proved that age is just a number and that back 9 was simply a masterclass of golf! The playoff against JJ Spaun was an absolutely thrilling battle that we all hope for each week. It’s hard to believe Justin has been a professional for nearly 30 years. But what I admire most about him, whether in victory or defeat, he conducts himself like a true gentleman. Reminds me of Jack in that regard. Hats off to Justin, I’m so very proud of his success. GP

I’m sad not to be on the grounds at The Open this year. Royal Portrush stands, in my view, as the finest course in Ireland, which is no small praise given the extraordinary depth of world-class links found throughout the country. No doubt one of the greatest in the world. I won my 9th Senior Major here, so special memories indeed. It is a truly magnificent test of golf, shaped by nature and steeped in tradition. I was delighted to see The R&A restore it to The Open Championship rota, a decision that rightfully honours its stature in the game. What a moment that was when Irishman Shane Lowry won on its return! Good luck to all competing this year, you never know what can happen at The Open! GP
