@UmbrellaSecSvcs Yup. I was there for 10 years and oversaw the full renovation that reopened in 2019!

@ashleyhlebinsky Wait. You ran the firearms museum at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center? Okay, I may have to follow you. I used to spend hours in that place when I was a kid!

Here’s a copy of the May 23, 1968 Congressional Record where Senator Tower lays out a pretty detailed justification for using 1898 as the cut off year for “antique.” The original year was 1870, but at the behest of gun collectors and firearms orgs it was extended several decades.
