I finished my first week as a Senior Data Analyst at PredictHQ, and I'm looking forward to sharing what the future holds for me there! Huge moment for me after spending 12+ years in biomedical science. Top thing I will not miss is the long hours at the bench away from family 💯

@SMcfarnell What do you think is the implication here? Judging is an approximation?

I have never been to America but it is a dream of mine to one day go and to go to a proper diner and have pancakes with that streaky bacon and syrup from one of those jugs and coffee that a waitress will refill from one of those coffee pots

How to reduce ‘bad’ inflammation 1. Eat a Blueprint (mediterranean) diet 2. Try to avoid getting sick i.e. strong immune system via high quality sleep 3. Eliminate gum inflammation with proper oral care, i.e. flossing, waterpik and brushing 4. Maintain healthy range of total and visceral body fat (use a body composition scale) 5. Avoid smoking cigarettes and secondhand smoke

Huge congratulations to my other coauthors, the team at Auckland Hospital, and in particular my supervisor and collaborator Prof. Johanna Montgomery for having the vision and all the work required to make it happen.

A lot of work was also done by my talented coauthor Ben Prince developing new techniques to image these neurons in 3D using tissue clearing and a new large volume imaging system developed @ABI_bioeng by Dr Greg Sands, Prof Bruce Smaill and others

This suggests greater synaptic communication could underlie aberrant activity in heart neurons associated with episodes of AF. It also supports further investigation into ways to reverse this synaptic plasticity using stimulation techniques which may help prevent AF.

Today we published the first of my last two papers! I am immensely proud of this one and hugely grateful to the tissue donors and their families. Here, we shed some light on how atrial fibrillation impacts heart neuron function in humans doi.org/10.1113/JP2862…

We recorded electrical activity from heart neurons using the patch clamp technique in intact groups of neurons. We show neurons from patients with AF have greater excitability and more synapses as well as changes in protein expression that could influence neuronal phenotypes.

Was just speaking to someone getting ready to graduate with a master of science in data analytics (from a university I will not name). They have 0 SQL experience. How do you have a MS in data and graduate people without teaching them SQL?

@levelsio Are you feeding it any specific knowledge about CBT like in a RAG way or just relying on the base model? Could be a way to improve

Absolutely NOBODY is paying for cbt.chat, well actually one sign up Thousands of users that all got 10 messages free Either we can tweak this or we just invalidated the idea of an AI mental help life coach within a week which is fine too

Slowly been sharing the cbt.chat chat bot username in its Telegram channel to soft launch and test it Payment integration from Telegeam to Stripe works 700 people have now used it I will add @SimpleAnalytic server side event tracking soon to log activity better

After you’ve worked as a data engineer or data analyst for a few years you’ll likely realize that there are a whole lot of projects and skills that aren’t covered in a Python or SQL tutorial. You’ll be asked to take on migrations from one data warehouse to another. You’ll need to decide whether you should build, buy, or go with open source. You’ll need to create standards for your data team to operate under. And so much more. So I wanted to start running a few lives covering some of these topics, discuss real-life use cases as well as walk through how you can succeed in these situations. In particular, I'd love to start with: 1. Walking Through Migrations - With Real-Life Examples 2. How To Pick The Right Data Solution And Set up Your Data Stack 3. Setting Up A Data Team If you'd like to get an invite to these lives, please comment below! Also please comment with other topic ideas!

@visakanv Definitely feel like I played house at academia some of the time. Having that laser focus is hard to keep up over long periods.

to turn it on myself, this does get me wondering in what ways might i be playing house in other aspects of my life. telling myself that i'm working hard but not actually inquiring about the mechanics of the outcomes i am trying to achieve. its so bleak man. wew

fascinating. i went to look up the original post because this is so interesting to me. particularly the second paragraph where they list out everything they've "tried", which seems like successful processes (audience, paying customers), before listing out the failed outcomes...

we’re re-enacting the plot to silicon valley with LLMs we’ve been gifted the best way to search over compressed data ever invented but everyone is building the same chatbot over and over we built a 100% open source demo of something more practical check the thread
