@michelletandler Broken window policing has been debunked scientifically. The decline in crime in the 90s was a multi-country phenomenon, most pronounced in Europe. There is no single explanation for it, and it was likely due to many factors.
Nothing concrete to extrapolate for modern-day SF.
I'm back in NYC and the difference between this city and San Francisco is astounding.
The streets are bustling, I haven’t seen a single drug encampment, and the sidewalks are glass-free.
Last night I walked at 1am without a worry in my mind…
This is what cities should be.
Who has migrated away from Slack entirely?
Product is stagnant, costs are outrageous, won't let us downgrade our plan to less expensive tiers without deleting the workspace entirely.
There's gotta be something better out there.
@anothercohen All pet insurance providers will raise premiums over time as your pets age. Another quirk is that many don’t cover doc fees. And some only offer fixed indemnity coverage. I haven’t looked into it lately, but when we insured our dog, @PetsBest was best.
Not only has Lemonade denied the couple of claims I submitted last year but they are now increasing my pet insurance from $50/mo to $77/mo for *each* dog.
Worst pet insurance company I've ever used. Will be canceling and finding a new provider
@harshitagirase FYI: Your new job must be for the same work that is described in your LCA. Otherwise, the h1b isn’t portable. So make sure that your new job is similar enough to what’s in your original LCA…

Hey everyone!
I'm looking for the next step in my career and reaching out for some help as I transition into a new role.
🚨 Unfortunately, I'm on an H-1B visa so only have 60 days to transition to a new role 😢
Quick, relevant info that might be useful 👇🏽
@jkwade GoCardless (my recommendation) | Adyen, Dwolla, Stax for API-only | Orum or Alacriti for more custom solution | ModernTreasury and Sila are overkill ($$$) | Others: FIS, Braintree, Stripe (if you must)
@asanwal@AngelList Technically no longer a startup, but I’d say @HotelTonight because it nailed the quintessential mobile app usp and ux in a way that only communications and mapping apps have been able to
@moizali You’re saying you have more money than you need. So, think about how useless even more money would be. Then, redefine “rich” and go for something besides $s such as excellence in an area/activity, lives of others improved, trees saved, etc.
Honest Question:
Does anyone have any tips for getting over envy?
I've earned more money than I can spend in this lifetime, but still find myself envious of people who are richer than me or even spending more money than me.
How do you fix that?
@chrissyfarr@joannaas@yossy770 Log into your med carrier and look at the claim. If your deductible has been met, then it’s either a plan w/ high coinsurance %, or an out of network charge, or your med carrier rejecting a portion of bill, eg as not being medically necessary (that one you can appeal).
Just charged $700 for a 5m check of my ears for signs of blockage (none) and a recommendation for a saline rinse. $250 Out-of-pocket. The clinic billed a “moderate to complex” visit code. Should I fight this?
No U.S. tech company that IPO'd in the last decade now ranks in the top 250 global companies by value. Airbnb is the most valuable of the bunch, at ~$54B, coming in at #270.

@capitolhunters Also, h1b requires employer sponsorship, and that employer cannot be a company in which you have decision making power and/or a big stake because you would be quasi self-sponsoring.
Elon mentions the H1-B “specialty occupations” visa many times. Those were easier to get in the 1990s than now, but still had a hard criterion: you need an undergrad degree. And Elon didn’t have one. He couldn’t even apply til he somehow managed to get a diploma. 15/
Someone has to say it: Elon Musk has lied for 27 years about his credentials. He does not have a BS in Physics, or any technical field. Did not get into a PhD program. Dropped out in 1995 & was illegal. Later, investors quietly arranged a diploma - but not in science. 🧵1/
@hubermanlab That’s why the market for eyelid tape in the Nordic countries is tens of trillions of dollars, even though demand is only during wintertime!
How well you slept last night and when you felt sleepy to go to bed, and how you felt on waking are MAINLY controlled by how early and how much sunlight you viewed before 10am in the preceding 2-3 days. Other factors matter but that’s the biggie folks.
Non-negotiable biology.
