@5chstereoAI @acidsutra This may be enough to explain the persistence of the configuration over a single lifetime. That it lives somehow in the mind of the subject. What explains the mechanism of the persistence over multiple births and deaths? What's the substratum holding that info

Most Western students hear “karma” and immediately reach for past lives, which makes the idea feel remote and unfalsifiable. But if you recast a “life” as a relational configuration rather than an embodiment, the principle becomes directly observable. You don’t enter marriage number two as a blank slate. You enter it carrying the behavioral grooves your first marriage cut into you, the expectations calibrated to your former partner’s patterns, the triggered responses keyed to specific tones of voice, the grievances that were never metabolized, the protective postures that became automatic. Your new partner is not meeting some pristine original self. They are meeting a self laden with the residue of the previous bond. That is the weight. It transfers because it lives in the subject, not the setting, which is why changing settings, whether partners, jobs, cities, or countries, produces the familiar phenomenon of people reconstituting the same dynamic with different actors. The Indic diagnosis is that the actor is recreating the pattern because the pattern is encoded in their saṃskāras, not in their circumstances.

It’s totally wild that geologically the Scottish Highlands and the Appalachian mountains are part of the same Pangea-era mountain chain. And then when the first Scots arrived in early America, they flooded directly into Appalachia in large numbers, as if they knew.

Today we debate how much work is enough work, Poincaré had a system for his day. He worked exactly from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM & 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. He believed that working more than 4 hrs a day was harmful to the brain's ability to synthesize. He spent the rest of his time reading/walking/simply sitting in silence. He was a living rebuttal to the modern grind culture proving that 4 hrs of extreme deep work could out-produce a lifetime of 80 hr weeks.
Physics In History@PhysInHistory

Today marks the birth anniversary of Henri Poincaré (1854–1912), a pioneering French mathematician, physicist, and philosopher of science. Renowned as "The Last Universalist", Poincaré made foundational contributions to celestial mechanics, topology, chaos theory, and the early development of special relativity. His work laid the groundwork for modern mathematical physics and influenced generations of scientists and thinkers.

What's with the US military unleashing all kinds of new age weaponry in the Trump era? There was the sonic weapon during the Venezuela kidnapping, the Ghost murmur now. Is Trump's penchant for showmanship enabling the military to be more adventurous?
Collin Rugg@CollinRugg

NEW: The CIA used a secret tool called "Ghost Murmur" that uses AI to find heartbeats to rescue the U.S. airman who was stranded in Iran, according to the New York Post. The secret technology was allegedly used for the first time in the field, according to the Post. "The secret technology uses long-range quantum magnetometry to find the electromagnetic fingerprint of a human heartbeat and pairs the data with artificial intelligence software to isolate the signature from background noise," the Post reported. "It’s like hearing a voice in a stadium, except the stadium is a thousand square miles of desert," the source said. "In the right conditions, if your heart is beating, we will find you." "The name is deliberate. ‘Murmur’ is a clinical term for a heart rhythm. ‘Ghost’ refers to finding someone who, for all practical purposes, has disappeared..." "Advances in a field known as quantum magnetometry, specifically sensors built around microscopic defects in synthetic diamonds, have apparently made it possible to detect these signals at dramatically greater distances." CIA Director John Ratcliffe appeared to hint at this technology on Monday, saying the CIA possessed "unique capabilities" but said he couldn't "tell you everything that you want to know." President Trump also revealed during the press conference that the CIA spotted the officer from about "40 miles away." Insane.

@batatalal This would encapsulate much of how business is done in the big corps of the west. Corrupt yet highly competent. They just vouchsafe it in legalese and fancy jargon and the law has grown a hedge around it.

@shrutammegopaya Imho, karma theory was sophisticated intellectual cope to get around the fundamental role randomness plays in the universe. Sometimes things just happen. No rhyme or reason. Atman persistence, rebirth, and everything else is downstream of karma theory.

An important appeal of Christianity in my opinion is this idea that Jesus takes on the burden of all of humanity's sins by suffering on our behalf Very sharp contrast to the relentless counter of karma in Hinduism. Yes, there is spontaneous grace in Hindu Bhakti traditions, but karma never goes away. Bhakti is merely a means for the devotee to cope with the harshness of karma. Everything is accounted for in the ultimate analysis. That isn't the case in Christianity. It's true that Jesus wants you to repent, but he bears the consequences of all sins. That explains why so many "fallen" individuals who want to "reform" and change, take the route of Christianity You never see a porn star or a former pimp becoming a devout Hindu. And even if they do, they will be scoffed at, and looked askance. I think this idea of Substitutionary Atonement predates Protestant Reformation, which is why the Reformation was not totally antithetical to the roots of Christianity As a Hindu, I find it populist and in part perhaps a tool that enables better religious marketing. Obviously Christians see it differently I shared these thoughts with Gemini. It summed it up by calling the contrast as one between "theology of mercy" vs "philosophy of justice".

@rushikesh_agre_ One good example of why I'm extremely bearish on India in the short to medium term. We can have great gdp and rapid infra development, but without fixing the major underlying issue (human resources problem of a large section), we can't dream of any kind of developed status.

A big reason for breakdowns in ghats is simple - people don't know how to drive manual cars. Riding the clutch on slopes overheats the engine. Add zero lane discipline & poor hill-driving sense. And the Mumbai - Pune expressway collapses. Licences are easy. Driving skill isn't. Agree or not? 👇

@sumanthraman Competition regulations are all far far downstream issues. Real deal is *most likely* minority owned and minorty run institutions would get an exemption if not some relaxation. That's the real deal.

Private schools are not a monopoly or duopoly unlike airlines or telecom companies. There are thousands of them around. Competition will drive fees down eventually. Govt. regulating this is bad policy. By the same yardstick they should regulate the cost of care in Private hospitals also as it is a far bigger issue with patients often not having a choice.

Tamil Nadu govt to soon cap private school fees, relief for parents against the exorbitant prices set by many private schools A bill titled Tamil Nadu Schools (Regulation of Collection of Fee) Amendment Act, 2026 to be passed in the Assembly today. A 7-member committee headed by a retired HC judge will fix the fee cap for private schools. The fees decided will be binding on all private schools and valid for 3 academic years. Move aims to ensure fees are reasonable and non-exploitative. @tnschoolsedu @Anbil_Mahesh

Dear families, gone are the days where you don't pre-book your seats, come late to the airport and expect to get all of you seated together in the flight. If not, then undertake master negotiations with fellow passengers for seat exchanges. I always pre-select and pay for my seat (front rows, aisle) or seats together when traveling with my family of four. This week too, fell for another guilt tripped request to give up my pre-paid seat for another family. These negotiations start with "Are you travelling alone?". Was requested to exchange seats and go to a rear row seat for a family with a child and an infant. Multiple exchanges to get those 3 seats together. Next time, please pre-select your seats together and pay for it too. If you can afford to fly together, you might be able to afford to pay for seat selection as well.

@prasannavishy Premiumisation is meaningless without strict enforcement. We're already seeing massive squeeze of general and unreserved classes and the consequent overcrowding on reserved seats, derailing passenger experience.

Vande Bharat Sleeper appears to be a clean break from legacy rail travel. No RAC, guaranteed berths, modern interiors, and competitive pricing. This is what long-distance rail should look like. Indian Railways now needs to lean hard into premiumisation by upgrading the existing network with more such premium services and also push aggressively on greenfield high-speed rail.

@Pmkphotoworks Performance wise they are equal. What about comparison in terms of maintenance? Are automatics more expensive in terms of service/upkeep?

The Indian car market is still largely obsessed with the idea that manual transmissions are superior. There's almost an anti-automatic sentiment among many car owners. The wildest reason I've heard for not owning an automatic is: "Driving a manual on the highway keeps your senses awake. Since there's nothing to do in an automatic, one might fall asleep and crash the car." In that case, how about focusing on becoming a better driver? Why try to force yourself to stay awake while driving sleepy? The more well-rested you are, the less of a danger you are to others. Progress in the name of convenience shouldn't be dismissed through flawed logic that masks poor habits as safety features.

All those who are terrified by the dogs while walking alone in the park and roads . This is a remarkable equipment. Without harming the dog , you can keep them away . They get hell scared of the waves and sound coming from it . It worked with me most of the time specially when they are in distance of 5-10 feet . Thank me later

@adithya What is the source (within the Vedic corpus) that the Vedas are apaurusheya? Is this assertion specific to a particular school of thought?

Got reminded of this interesting Veda mantra on seeing this nice old painting by artist Gopulu - Daśhā̎syāṃ pu̱trānādhe̍hi̱ pati̍mekāda̱śaṃ kṛ̍dhi|| This is an Asheerwadha Veda mantra that tells "Beget 10 children and treat your husband as the 11th child" Not from just any Shloka, itihasa or purana or Shastra (commentary on Vedas by Rishis), But Vedas themselves tell this ! (Vedas which are Apaurusheya or not created by a man, the eternal omnipresent Purusha's breath, discovered not composed by Rishis or seers) Whether practical or not is a different question and definitely not practical today (we all know all the reasons - no joint families, economic reasons etc) The point here is that Vedas ORDAIN every Gruhastha to have as many children as possible! - Why? For Dharma Raksha or spreading Dharma! Very interesting This lovely painting brought a smile to my face btw (my great grandmothers on both my father's and mother's sides were always dressed in Madisar or 9 yards saree like this till their end)
