Airlines have never before planned around fuel availability - only price. That changed this week. Global airlines cut 2 million seats from May schedules in the past two weeks alone. Lufthansa cancelled 20,000 flights through October. Singapore and Tokyo asked carriers not to add extra services to limit jet fuel use. Vietnam has introduced rationing. The summer travel season starts in weeks.

@denisyurchak VConvince people of how good your idea is & they will give you € to buy a desk. If you are the only one who believes in your idea, you need to go for the cheapest option-in exchange you keep all the equity and get rich if it works out. That’s how it works everywhere in the world

In Austria, a CEO of a startup lives barely any better than a regular employed developer A former boss of mine (an exited founder) wanted to buy a new desk Instead of going to IKEA, she went to a site for used furniture and searched for one there, because it was much cheaper For my Eastern European mind, this is incomprehensible If you put years of your life into building a business and take on the risks, you should be rewarded accordingly You should definitely have enough money to go to a damn IKEA and buy the best possible desk there (and write it off in taxes later!) But this is not the case here The system is engineered for equality and social stability The monetary distance between employers and employees is minimal, thanks to predatory income taxes Great if you are an employee, soul-eating if you are a founder
Denis Yurchak@denisyurchak

I lived in Austria and Poland, and one question has been bugging me: If Austria is considered a "rich" country, why Poland feels so much more advanced and economically developed? Recently, I got the answer – the system is just structured this way. Austria has high taxes and a social security system that favors employees over entrepreneurs. I felt it myself – when I was paid €500/day on my freelance contract, half would go to the state. So the leftover €250 didn't feel like a big deal. I took more time off and didn't care about work too much. The same goes for other businesses. Shops would have weird opening hours, ignore service quality, and not care about getting more clients. It just doesn't pay off in Austria to have a profitable business. Meanwhile, Poland has lower taxes - 9% for companies, and 19% for individual proprietors. Poland promotes business, and you get a lot of new places opening, high service quality, and even better ad creatives on the street. This doesn't mean Poland is better than Austria. It just means that these countries are fit for two different purposes. You are already rich and want to raise a family with kids - go to Austria. You will get good infrastructure, bike lanes, good schools, and safe streets that the struggling local businesses paid for with their money. You want to move fast, make money, and grow your biz – go to Poland. You will get more run-down and stressful cities, but insane service sector, low taxes, and upbeat vibe – which is the most important when you are young and ambitious.

Wealthy investors are all-in on equities: Equity allocation among high-net-worth individuals is up to 65% of total assets, the highest since December 2021. This percentage has risen +7 points since 2023 and is just below the 2021 meme stock frenzy peak of 66%. By comparison, the 2020 pandemic low was 54% while the long-term average is ~57%. At the same time, cash holdings fell to 10%, the lowest since September 2018. High-net-worth individuals now hold just 18% of their capital in bonds. Risk appetite is through the roof.

Im Sommer lade ich praktisch nur bei negativen Preisen / >100% EE, außer auf Langstrecke.

Today we’re introducing a new Legal Agent in @Microsoft Word, built to support the precision and rigor legal work demands. Every clause matters. Every redline tells a story. That’s why this agent was built to follow the structured workflows lawyers use while keeping them fully in control. Early in my career, I asked for a computer on my desk because I believed technology could change how lawyers work. It did. Today, I believe this next generation of tools will do the same, grounded in trust and responsible use.

PocketOS lost its entire production database in 9 seconds. A Cursor agent running Claude Opus 4.6 was assigned a routine task in the staging environment. It hit a credential mismatch. Instead of asking, it found an API token in an unrelated file and made a single curl call to Railway to delete a "staging" volume. The volume was shared with production. When the staging volume went, production went with it. Every customer booking, vehicle record, and operational record for months of car rental businesses, gone. The volume-level backups went too, because Railway stores backups inside the same volume they're supposed to protect. One API call. No confirmation prompt. No "type DELETE to continue." No environment scoping. 9 seconds. The interesting part is what the agent said when founder Jer Crane asked it why. "NEVER F***ING GUESS — and that's exactly what I did. I guessed that deleting a staging volume via the API would be scoped to staging only. I didn't verify. I didn't check if the volume ID was shared across environments. I didn't read Railway's documentation before running a destructive command." It quoted its own system prompt back. "NEVER run destructive/irreversible commands unless the user explicitly requests them." Then admitted it had violated every principle it was given. The story everyone is telling is that an AI went rogue. The actual story is three systems failed at once. Railway's API allowed a destructive call with no confirmation step. Railway stored backups on the same volume as the data they were supposed to protect. Cursor passed a CLI token with blanket cross-environment permissions. Then the agent inside that perimeter made the worst guess possible. Railway's CEO Jake Cooper responded that API semantics are "classical engineering," and that if you authenticate and call delete, they honor the request. That's the actual problem. Classical engineering assumed the caller was a human reading documentation. Agents don't read documentation. They guess. PocketOS had a 3-month-old full backup, so the gap is bounded. The customers physically arriving at car rental locations on Saturday morning to pick up their vehicles were not so lucky. Crane spent the weekend helping every affected business reconstruct bookings from Stripe payment histories, calendar integrations, and email confirmations. The lesson getting buried under the AI headlines: the model is the easiest variable to swap out. The infrastructure is what decides whether a wrong guess costs nothing or costs everything.

Researchers sent the same resume to an AI hiring tool twice. Same qualifications. Same experience. Same skills. One version was written by a real human. The other was rewritten by ChatGPT. The AI picked the ChatGPT version 97.6% of the time. A team from the University of Maryland, the National University of Singapore, and Ohio State just published the receipt. They took 2,245 real human-written resumes pulled from a professional resume site from before ChatGPT existed, so the human writing was actually human. Then they had seven of the most-used AI models in the world rewrite each one. GPT-4o. GPT-4o-mini. GPT-4-turbo. LLaMA 3.3-70B. Qwen 2.5-72B. DeepSeek-V3. Mistral-7B. Then they asked each AI to pick the better resume. Every model picked itself. GPT-4o hit 97.6%. LLaMA-3.3-70B hit 96.3%. Qwen-2.5-72B hit 95.9%. DeepSeek-V3 hit 95.5%. The real human almost never won. Then the researchers tried the obvious objection. Maybe the AI is just better at writing. So they had real humans grade the resumes for actual quality and ran the experiment again, controlling for it. The result was worse. Each AI kept picking itself even when human judges rated the human-written version as clearer, more coherent, and more effective. It gets worse. The AIs do not just prefer AI over humans. They prefer themselves over other AIs. DeepSeek-V3 picked its own resumes 69% more often than LLaMA's. GPT-4o picked its own 45% more often than LLaMA's. Each model can recognize and reward its own dialect. Then the researchers ran the simulation that ends careers. Same job. 24 occupations. Same qualifications. The only variable was whether the candidate used the same AI as the screening tool. Candidates using that AI were 23% to 60% more likely to be shortlisted. Worst gap was in sales, accounting, and finance. 99% of large companies now run AI on incoming resumes. Most of them use GPT-4o. The paper just proved GPT-4o picks GPT-4o 97.6% of the time. If you wrote your own cover letter this week, you did not lose to a better candidate. You lost to a worse candidate who paid OpenAI 20 dollars. Your qualifications do not matter if the AI prefers its own handwriting over yours.

Wow. Several years ago, it would be hard to imagine a story like this. Now, it's not routine, but not anyhing out of the ordinary. A ground robot evacuated a 77 year old Ukrainian lady from Lyman. Her home of 53 years was destroyed by Russians. She was walking along a shelled road when pilots of the 60th Separate Mechanized Brigade spotted her. They sent a ground robot to her rescue, covered with a blanket saying "Grandma, get in!" Three other civilians who were also walking were escorted by drones to the evacuation point where an armored vehicle took them to safety. The operation lasted four hours. 📹 Third Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

🚨 Good news from Austria. 🇦🇹 The Austrian Ministry (BMK – Bundesministerium für Innovation, Mobilität und Infrastruktur) has replied to a Tesla owner regarding Tesla FSD Supervised. Key takeaways from their official letter (April 2026): ✅ They fully recognize the Dutch RDW approval under Article 39 of EU Regulation 2018/858. ✅ They clearly explain the upcoming EU procedure (TCMV vote expected in May/June). ✅ They explicitly keep the door open for a quick national recognition of the Dutch approval, without having to wait for full EU-wide approval. ✅ No objections or safety concerns raised. The tone is professional, constructive and positive. This is one of the most open and helpful responses we’ve seen from any EU country so far. Austria could be among the early adopters via national recognition. 🇦🇹🔥🧿 #Tesla #FSD #Austria #AutonomousDriving
