@Dan4Barnet We are already being taxed on everything. People now avoid flying to the UK and then get the train from Europe because our air travel taxes are so enormous.

Mixed views in the replies. Let's remember, the government is giving Mayors in England the choice to implement the levy. Local areas in Wales and Scotland already have this power.
So many other regional leaders across the world have this choice. Some use it. Some don't. And that's fine, in fact it's a good thing. It's called devolution!
But England is pretty much the most centralised country in the developed world when it comes to taxation, and I'm not going to be yet another tax Minister that lets it stay that way. We need regional leadership to have, if they wish, revenue streams that they can rely on to fund investment in growth-enhancing projects in their areas.
Rachel Reeves has been leading from the front on fiscal devolution, and the Chancellor's recent announcement of "revenue sharing" for Mayors is a decisive break with the past. The timeline and phasing-in details for this will be set out in a roadmap at the Budget, and I'm looking forward to working on it in HMT in the months ahead.

The Overnight Visitor Levy is a big moment in the history of devolution in England. Opponents would prefer we stuck in the past - with Mayors denied the choice to raise revenue to invest locally, supporting growth, tourism & raising the economic potential of their areas.

Mike’s maybe half a generation ahead of me but we worked in roughly the same space. I loved every second of my six months with the Green Berets, and the 75th Rangers were outstanding.
It’s a regret I didn’t get to serve alongside Mike. He deserves many more followers.

@Mr_Andrew_Fox The officer in charge during his time in Afghan was the Chief of the Defence Force - a lone 4 star post in the ADF. That is the real issue, and something that has been completely neglected by this investigation. Where is the accountability. That is my issue with this.

@Mr_Andrew_Fox The bigger issue with the ADF in Afghan is that it was government policy to overtly use SASR due to risk management reasons. This caused a toxic warrior culture and the troopers lacked command and control. Not to say BRS did not commit wrong acts but it was overlooked by command
