The state of AI in the software industry in early 2026. The blue bit is the region of interest.

@devaraj227 It would be poetic for some new political movement to encourage their members to throw themselves on to the Suffragette Line. Almost seems intentional . . .

Back in London for a few days. I see the old Gospel Oak north London line has been renamed the Suffragette Line! Gotta change for the Watford line in a mo, now renamed Lioness Line. Lefties in full effect.

Actively dangerous lunatics, regardless of intelligence level, are always more of a problem anyway.

If you seriously anticipate the imminent arrival of a Superintelligent AI maybe it would be wise to consider that to it we would all seem idiotic, and so not it is not a good idea to set a precedent for treating those we consider to be so too harshly.

@cbeauche It is a sad end. The Red Storm devs were behind a lot of the good late 90s/early 2000s game dev resources too, as well as the games themselves.

The purpose of AI in physics is not to figure out physics. It is to discover that the field was retconned with a false backstory and organizing narrative about “The Holy Grail of Physics” that dominates the AI training corpus and holds back the field, keeping physics harmless.

@hunkybill @antoniospiezia The city and the province have to go their separate ways for that. The only serious question is where to draw the boundary.

@antoniospiezia It has been a very long long time since any government chose to support Montreal! Just saying, I hope when we get the next chance, it turns out better for Montreal!

The Montreal Renaissance is real. The Habs are ridiculously good. The Expos spark is back. The food scene is booming. The coffee culture is top tier. The bagels...never better. The tech ecosystem is bouncing back. The animation scene is back (just won an Oscar) The history, unmatched. Bullish on this city.🚧

I know Silicon Valley startups don't want to hear this..... But the combination of someone in the trades with deep domain expertise and Claude Code will run circles around your generic software. I talked to Cory LaChance this morning, a mechanical engineer in industrial piping construction in Houston. He normally works with chemical plants and refineries, but now he also works with the terminal He reached out in a DM a few days ago and I was so fired up by his story, I asked him if we could record the conversation and share it. He built a full application that industrial contractors are using every day. It reads piping isometric drawings and automatically extracts every weld count, every material spec, every commodity code. Work that took 10 minutes per drawing now takes 60 seconds. It can do 100 drawings in five minutes, saving days of time. His co-workers are all mind blown, and when he talks to them, it's like they are speaking different languages. His fabrication shop uses it daily, and he built the entire thing in 8 weeks. During those 8 weeks he also had to learn everything about Claude Code, the terminal, VS Code, everything. My favorite quote from him was when he said, "I literally did this with zero outside help other than the AI. My favorite tools are screenshots, step by step instructions and asking Claude to explain things like I'm five." Every trades worker with deep expertise and a willingness to sit down with Claude Code for a few weekends is now a potential software founder. I can't wait to meet more people like Cory.

If you wanted to kill all momentum in the Quest line you couldn’t have done a better job. Updates to make your product actively repulsive, but especially so to the demographic that actually bought into your system.

This is such a predictable failure, just as they got a half interesting product it is as if a pile of generic midwit PMs arrived and started concocting experiences that were somehow more cringe inducing than Kinect avatars, which were then forced on everyone.

This is a very generous move by the algorithm designer, Eric Lengyel. Slug has been the leading GPU based text renderer for basically a decade, and it was basically inspired. If you are a programmer of any taste it is the sort of thing you dream of creating.

A non negligible part of the all too predictable DLSS 5 backlash is that manga-hair does not translate to badass. Poor Leon.
