Starting this week, millions of @Shopify merchants can sell in ChatGPT, into the US. Their PDP, their checkout, their customizations, no extra setup. AI is a new front door to commerce. Shopify is what’s behind it everywhere.

Shopify's sidekick is nearly certainly the best example of AI use in an application not developed by a large frontier AI lab. When I interview great engineers, many of them instinctually understand this. Sidekick is an order of magnitude better than Copilot, for example.

The more I use ai the more I’m convinced we’re hardwired as humans to be addicted to efficiency. It just feels good. The fallacy is that we want to make tools so we can relax. The truth is the more efficient you become, the more you want to be EVEN more efficient. It feels powerful. Ai will probably turn more people into workaholics than it will generate lazy people.

@ShopifyDevs could someone please help us with our shopify app review. It's stuck for several weeks - we can't wait to get Shopify Taxonomy automated for merchants @liam_at_shopify - anything else we could do here to comply?

Best money I've ever spent as a CEO... an internal AI transformation hire. He doesn't care about title. He just wants to ship. And he goes across your entire org, sales, revenue, hr, apps, tech and kills stupid manual processes. Such an underrated unlock I have since hired 2 more.

OK, well. I ran /autoresearch on the the liquid codebase. 53% faster combined parse+render time, 61% fewer object allocations. This is probably somewhat overfit, but there are absolutely amazing ideas in this.

karpathy just broke the internet with something called auto research it’s basically an ai research agent that runs experiments for you 24/7 you give it a goal like “make this model better” “find a higher converting landing page” “lower customer acquisition cost” then it runs a loop: 1) plan an experiment 2) edit the code or config 3) run a short test on a gpu 4) read the metrics 5) keep the winner 6) try again over and over while you sleep by the morning you wake up to the best version actual tested improvements think of it like a robot research intern that runs hundreds of experiments and only keeps the winners this is link to his repo github.com/karpathy/autor… for your to mess around with it in the latest episode of @startupideaspod i break down: • what auto research actually is • how it works step by step • 10 business ideas you can build with it • how to install it and start using it this one is saucy because tools like this change how startups get built watch

The timing on this is quite interesting @nickaturley (aand in a nicer way) Same day you ship GPT-5.4 with tool search, @theinformation reports OpenAI is pulling back Checkout inside ChatGPT. @harleyf mentioned twelve merchants integrated out of millions. But 900M people are using ChatGPT to research what to buy every week. Feels like today made it official: ChatGPT is a recommendation engine, not a storefront. And GPT-5.4 just made that recommendation engine significantly better at understanding what people actually want.
