Apple designs iPhones to turn on automatically when plugged in for a few simple reasons. The phone needs its software running to manage the charging speed and prevent the battery from overheating. While charging, the phone also stays active to back up your data to the cloud or install updates. If your power button ever becomes faulty, you can still turn the phone on just by plugging it in.
