@JayforHouse85 Are there ways to draw districts that are fairer that accurately reflect the population? Sure. But that’s not what is happening here. This is an autocratic power grab not unlike the 1895 state constitutional convention that effectively stripped Black people from voting.

@JayforHouse85 “They carved out a congressional district “ That was you and your Republican buddies, buddy. SC06 was drawn to bleach every other district. And now the one district w/o a clear racial majority, the Democratic leaning district, is being cracked.

Loosing our democracy? How democratic is it that we have a House District “carved out” specifically for one person with the sole purpose of keeping that one representative safe in his seat? There is no argument from the Democrats that that is not happening and has happened for over 30 years. Those who drew the district admitted it and even worked with Clyburns team! They carved out a congressional district by what color skin people have. That’s disgusting. Democratic? Hardly. We also remember in 2024 when they appointed Kamala Harris their nominee. When you hear “saving our democracy,” from the left, know the hyperbole is what they do. And divide us on purpose. The true irony will be is if a conservative person of color wins the seat. I’ll save for another post the accomplishments of the current reps record on helping the corridor of shame. All I’ll say is if you are getting the support of the poor, downtrodden and unemployed citizens of your district, what do you need more of to keep the seat? (In addition to picking what neighborhoods they live in)

@Jscottpace Dr. Lucy Traxler being a Democrat has zero to do with her being a public health official. Just because you’re an antivax conspiracy theorist nut job who wants to jeopardize DPH by putting another one in as Director doesn’t mean McMaster does.

Correction— it’s the Senate. The house should be bringing it up on Thursday.

Drew McKissick is so shady that the House passed a bipartisan bill to make him (and also Christale Spain and every other party chair) file a statement of economic interest as if they themselves are running for office. I wish this were the high note this session was ending on.
CJ Westfall@cjwestfall

South Carolina Republicans — this matters. Today, the South Carolina Senate voted 40-0 to pass an amendment to H.3570 that would bring more transparency and accountability to our state party leadership. The amendment would require the SCGOP Chairman to file a Statement of Economic Interest so Republicans can see where money and influence are coming from. It would also require individuals being paid to advocate on legislation to register as lobbyists — something most people would consider common sense. Now, the House must decide whether to concur with the Senate amendment. Unfortunately, misinformation is already spreading to try and scare county party leaders and grassroots activists into opposing this bill. Let’s be clear: this legislation was specifically tightened to apply to state party leadership — not county chairs volunteering in their local communities. This isn’t about attacking anyone. It’s about transparency, accountability, and restoring trust through sunlight. Be respectful. Be positive. Be principled. Call, text, or email your State House Representative and ask them to vote YES on H.3570 as amended and concur with the Senate changes. South Carolina Republicans deserve to know where the money is coming from and what special interests are trying to influence the direction of our party.

FYI New England is not gerrymandered against Republicans; New England Democrats are some of the best organizers in the country. The South actually is rigged against Democrats and the GOP is about to make it even laughably worse.
NOVA Enjoyer@NOVAaocfan20

If you look at the real map of New England you realize it isn't gerrymandered at all and the highly spread out Republicans are actually just fumbling 6 winnable seats every cycle. Republican candidates have won FOURTEEN of these districts in statewide races this past decade.

@jrossm74 @deerretlaw @ClyburnSC06 Because the Republicans have been in control for all but five years of that time, and quashed any attempt to raise the minimum wage in the last 15 years. Try again.

While SC’s min. wage continues to sit at 7.25/hr, @ClyburnSC06 is the only SC congressperson who openly supports a $15/hr minimum & broader worker-pay protections for the people of his state & country. “America First” is a slogan & just talk to his coworkers, Clyburn walks it.

@JoeConchaTV Oh, you mean the inflation that Biden fought back to 3% while you swore to all who’d hear you that he was somehow invalid? Then brought back his predecessor Trump, an actual invalid, who proceeded to blow it back up to 4% with unnecessary war?

Colleton has a Republican solicitor and a Republican sheriff. Sounds like they’re bad at their jobs than anything to do with Clyburn. I get wanting to move to Dorchester though.
John Smyth@SemperFrustr8d

@SCVotersCo We moved from Colleton Co. to Dorchester Co. late last year. Not specifically because Clyburn but the obvious trade marks of Clyburn supporters. Rampant crime. Gangs, believe it or not. High catch & release of repeat offenders. No backbone city officials..

@atrupar Clyburn representing a district close to Black/White parity: not representative of the state Ralph Norman bailing on a district drawn to be way more conservative than the state is, to run for governor of the state: cool and normal, apparently.

@ChazNuttycombe Eh; more likely he’d challenge Joe Wilson directly in SC02. However as the state convinced the Supreme Court the current map wasn’t a racial gerrymander, why are we even here?

Probably the only way that SC-06 is winnable for DEMs is if they get Vincent Shaheen to run. He's a conservative DEM who recently lost re-election in a very conservative seat by the skin of his teeth; proven electoral overperformer for SC GOV in 2014/2010 too.

@StatisticUrban @AltherrTerry When the SC Supreme Court told the Legislature that the state constitution protected abortion rights, they replaced a 3-2 nominally moderate court with justices who weren’t only conservative but deferential to the Legislature. Then they passed another abortion ban.

Past GOP state supreme court packing: AZ (2016): 5→7, locked in conservative majority GA (2016): 7→9, flipped Dem majority to GOP UT (2026): 5→7 after redistricting case loss They also killed nonpartisan elections in OH and NC, are killing a nominating commission in KS, etc.

@RealUSGuy @nmewrath @electionsjoe …because Andrews is in a three-way primary and there would have to be an egregiously bad candidate for SCDP to endorse in a primary (Stamper, 2010; Black 2016). Every House district has at least one Dem running and they and county parties are trying to help them as possible

@nmewrath @electionsjoe I still haven't seen SCDP boost Annie Andrews who is running against Lindsay Graham. It's like they've already given up on 2026 elections and are focusing all their attention on why they should still be an early primary state for 2028.
