So excited to share that today I celebrated the conclusion of my PhD journey with my family and colleagues at a graduation ceremony at Deakin University.

@mareeep It surprised me from the start that it ever had free coffee. Now seems like a brief interval of simple hospitality and everyday humanity.

@GeoffPolHist The recent drop in the new government’s drop in popularity probably has most to do with inflation and the Social Democrats presenting as more reliable.

Maybe desperate Cordon sanitaire to exclude SD was counterproductive?

@GeoffPolHist I’d say the cordon sanitaire was counterproductive over the last fifteen years. SD used it to reinforce their self-image as disruptive challengers of the status quo.

Despite Lachlan’s best efforts @bankaustralia are leaving me stranded overseas by over zealously ‘protecting’ my cards. They are overly prone to this in #Africa. And they make it super hard to get in touch. How many likes will get them to improve services to customers here?

@SbcsbcC If it is any consolation, I had extensive troubles with MyGov, ME Bank and Telstra when I was in Sweden during the first half of the year. No doubt living in a poor country adds extra layers but the scammers have made them obsessive compulsive about ID.

I just sat on hold for 30 minutes only to be cut off. This after a previous phone call and several messages on multiple platforms, including the app. Suggestions for banks more capable of serving customers overseas anyone?

@thebalitimes The article says one PCR test before travel and another just after arrival. Expensive but OK.

@tori_teaches LIONS is ok but I think ADIEU has a lower Scrabble score (more common letters) and you get more clues about the vowels.

@GeoffPolHist Mmm… Bob Carr was probably too young then. Neville Wran is about the right age but would’ve been described as an Arts-Law graduate.

@GeoffPolHist Does sound pretty interesting. I read a review by a Swedish theologian. Not surprisingly she was very critical of his shallow critique of theology. More interesting was her criticism that he cites almost no female authors.
