Somaliland’s Problem With Lying 🤥 Britain gave Somaliland independence... for exactly five days. On June 26th 1960, Somaliland became independent. Five days later, on July 1st, it disappeared into union with Somalia. That was never a secret. The British government's own document, Cmnd. 1044, says it clearly: Independence was only being granted so they could immediately unite with Somalia. It was a legal bridge, nothing more. Even the Americans knew it. The US State Department wrote that they did not formally recognise Somaliland because its independence was to be of such short duration - it was timed to unite immediately with Somalia. The very next day after independence, on June 27th, the new Somaliland parliament passed Law No. 1... and in that law they already started calling their own territory the Northern Region. A country that demotes itself to a region before the ink on its independence proclamation is even dry... how do you later celebrate that as restored sovereignty? This was never meant to be a real, permanent independent state. It was a temporary five-day vehicle designed to merge. That's not my opinion. That's what the documents say. And when that whole defective setup finally collapsed in 1991... the legal consequences were very different from what Hargeisa wants you to believe. Somaliland doesn’t have an “Independence Day”, they were a timed merger. A legal bridge is what those 5 days were. On day 2, they began dissolving their “state” with their very first law. We, the people of Awdal State, categorically reject what is called “Somaliland.” It does not represent us, our aspirations, or our political position. We are not part of its secessionist agenda and have no connection to its reckless actions, which are largely based on political theatrics and media spectacle rather than genuine legitimacy or consensus. In an effort to remain politically relevant, secessionist groups repeatedly resort to provocative actions intended to shock public opinion and attract international attention. Such actions do not reflect the will of all the people in the northern regions of Somalia, nor do they speak on behalf of the people of Awdal State. The people of Awdal State have consistently opposed secessionism. Most recently, on May 18, an overwhelming majority of the youth in Awdal publicly rejected the secessionist agenda by burning secessionist flags and raising the flag of the Somalia as a symbol of unity, sovereignty, and national solidarity. The people of Awdal State firmly support the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and unity of the Somali Republic. Joint Statement on Jerusalem and Somalia May 24, 2026 The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Türkiye, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Indonesia, the Republic of Djibouti, the Federal Republic of Somalia, the State of Palestine, the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of the Sudan, the Republic of Yemen, the Lebanese Republic, and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania condemn in the strongest terms the illegal and unacceptable step taken by the so-called “Somaliland” region in opening a purported “embassy” in occupied Jerusalem. This constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and relevant international resolutions, and represents a direct infringement on the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem. The Ministers reaffirm their categorical rejection of any unilateral measures aimed at entrenching an illegal reality in occupied Jerusalem or conferring legitimacy on any entities or arrangements that contravene international law and relevant United Nations resolutions. They reiterate that East Jerusalem has been occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, and that any measures intended to alter its legal and historical status are null and void and without legal effect. هذا الإجراء يتعارض تماماً مع سيادة الصومال على أراضيه، ويمس مباشرة مصالح مصر والعرب في منطقة القرن الأفريقي. السعي للحصول على موانئ في إقليم أرض الصومال الانفصالي ،ليس أزمة لو اقتصر على البُعد التجاري والاقتصادي فقط، لكن الخُطورة تكمن في أن هذا التحرك يخدم أجندات سياسية وعسكرية تطعن الأمن القومي المصري والعربي في مقتل. فلماذا يصر بعض العرب على التغريد خارج السرب على هذا النحو ،الذي يهدد وحدة الصف ومصالح الأشقاء؟" أعتقد أنه من الخطورة بمكان ، القفز فوق السيادة الصومالية بداعى الاستثمار الاقتصادي والتجاري في الموانئ، كحق مشروع للدول، لكن تحول هذا الوجود إلى غطاء لأهداف أخرى ، يمثل تهديداً مباشراً للمصالح العربية والمصرية والصومالية الحيوية في البحر الأحمر وباب المندب. والأمر هنا في هذا التوقيت الحرج ليس مجرد خلاف في وجهات النظر، بل هو قراءة قاصرة للجغرافيا السياسية، ومغامرة غير محسوبة تساهم في تفتيت دولة عربية شقيقة لصالح قوى إقليمية متربصة.
