@WWChrisCagneyDo @wesyang @jk_rowling @Martina I'm intolerant of lies about reality and express that by reiterating the truth and refuting the lies. So for me there's no difference between people who claim they've changed sex and Holocaust deniers, except that the latter don't use coercion to force all to agree with them.

Another day, another suspect tweet by an Irish politician, this time by Fine Gael Junior Health Minister Colm Burke. One wonders why he tweeted it, and one wonders why he thought it necessary to specify that Sigmund Freud was Jewish. The most bizarre aspect of this, however, is that there is no such quote by Freud in ‘Why War’. The underlined is the closest to it, and it is in response to Einstein suggesting these as motivations for war. ‘Why War’ was an intellectual exchange between Einstein & Freud in 1931/32 on how to rid mankind of the menace of war. Indeed, Freud ends his letter to Einstein by writing: ‘now war is in the crassest opposition to the psychical attitude imposed on us by the process of civilisation, and for that reason we are bound to rebel against it; we simply cannot any longer put up with it.’

XTwitter is like spending time in the teeming square of a raucous, gaudy, cosmopolitan city where in a corner-cafe, one meets wits, scholars and decent people who talk books, art and history and tell stories; there’s a park full of people who report from their own streets, walk their dogs and share worthy moments of other lives. There’s a garden full of people who teach you things you don’t know, who listen to things they don’t know and bring you news of wars and revolutions in faraway places they have seen you and haven’t; often they are in different even opposing worlds and disagree with you but you share empathy and humanism ; some become friends for life. There’s a fairground full of strange mirrors, vertiginous rides and trapdoors where hucksters, killers, vampires and poisoners trade lies, poisons & daggers; & in dank alleys, their cohorts of masked, poisonous, ignorant bigots and fanatics attack in gangs, hyenas hunt, vultures swoop, snakes slither and one suddenly finds oneself almost alone in a dark place. The skill is to stay in the café, the park or the gardens, even the fairground, but in the open, in the light… Those who pay attention may have noticed I posted an article two days ago and took it down an hour later because it didn’t feel right. My career as a writer historian is sharing interesting important facts & ideas but in a history book you have years to consider sources; here you sometimes don’t take long enough. I am happy to take down something if I think it excessive or questionable or just incorrect and to admit if I have got something wrong. Such moments are hardly surprising in the midst of a war of information in the Middle East and in Russia/Ukraine, two areas I write about… Most people on here often get things wrong but very few ever admit to doing so and even fewer correct themselves. That goes as much for ghoulish trolls and respected pundits as it does for giant news media - even when as happens repeatedly in both wars, their stories are totally disproven within hours or days. The world especially this square would be better if everyone would do so more often… especially if you wish to criticise others… In the process, I had to block a pack of haters, racists, bigots. But thank you to so many who sent support. Oh and enjoy the square; especially the café - but keep out of those backalleys….

Shouldn’t be surprised any more, but I am just *stunned* to see people I followed on here, inc people I met at the WPUK conference, eulogising Sinwar as some kind of martyr. FFS He was a brutal torturer/kidnapper/murderer and architect of a MASSACRE. What is wrong with people?

@313hur_ @RachelMoiselle Clear from objective judgement that IDF military action is targeted at terrorists who openly admit they hide behind 'human shields' for missile attacks on Israeli civilians and use Gaza civilians as 'cannon fodder' for defence against IDF attacks on Hamas.

This is, by definition, antisemitism. It is one of the most common forms in Ireland. I have heard of Jewish children being bullied in school for the actions of the Israeli government. The deep harm this sentiment causes Jews in the diaspora cannot be overstated. I hope the thrill of being a contrarian is worth it, Mairav. worldjewishcongress.org/en/news/defini…

Israel, a country born on the heels of extermination and war, has become a death machine itself. The valorization of the killing of Sinwar and Nasrallah together with the indifference to the killing of thousands of children will and should haunt every Jew for generations.

Today is the 1st day I’ll be going out into the world as non binary; I’ve dyed my hair green, practiced crying in my Capri for streaming live if I’m misgendered & not brushed my teeth. I’m scared but I must do this for LGBTQKLFOMDU2+ pioneers Harvey Milk & Hayley Cropper, who are no longer with us, & Peter Tatchell who sadly still is. Being non binary for less than 24 hours has been hell; I now know how Anne Frank felt. Please leave kind words below. 👇🏻

It seems I am talked about in some sort of Irish Nazi group chat (grúpa means group). This explains why some of my posts are swarmed with antisemitic comments in Irish. I wouldn’t advise translating the posts below for your own sanity. They use Irish specifically to write violent things without getting banned. It is a violation of our language to use it for this purpose.

Cú Chulainn was a courageous Irish warrior hero and demigod in Irish mythology. I was brought up reading and listening to the legends about him. It is such a grotesque insult to our culture and history to compare him to a cowardly terrorist. A man who hid in tunnels as his people paid the price for the massacre he orchestrated.

An example of shoehorning transgenderism into a film: From A Man Called Otto, the titular character meets and provides shelter to a victim of 'transphobia'. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the plot bar telling us that the grumpy and rude Otto is actually heroic

Happy birthday to my darling Da #TimothyWest, who is 90 today. A proud Yorkshireman by birth (Bradford 20/10/32). Here’s a pic from earlier this year, celebrating Shakespeare with Ma. I’ll be seeing him later if you wanted to pass on any good wishes

What do we, the people of Iran, Palestine, Iraq, Syria, and others in the region, truly want? How do we want to END war? There is only one solution. Please, listen! This is not just my call to action; it is the voice of millions of Iranians and people across the region who want peace and security.

Call me dumb! For some years now, as a child of the Enlightenment and a good rationalist, I have been trying to find a coherent set of ideas at the heart of transgenderism. I realise now I have been on a fool's quest. As an example, I was trying to understand how a child could have an inherent immutable 'gender identity', and, at the same time, have a fluid 'gender identity'. Both of these insane positions are claimed by transgenderism to justify gender affirmative care. Neither is backed by evidence. They are both incoherent contradictory lies told to justify child abuse. What I now realise is that the lack of ideological coherence is part of the winning strategy. If your ideology does not make sense and is deliberately confusing, it is much more difficult to attack and undermine. Call me dumb!

Women aren't 'reduced' by recognition of the fact that we're the sex whose bodies are organised to produce children. Only those who feel there's something lesser about the female reproductive system (or who haven't got one but wish they did) assert that it somehow diminishes us.

@CubeSteve @mushycrouton So it's not true that middle-aged men claim they're now women; that women who protest about those men in their toilets, sports and changing rooms suffer harm; that children are castrated and mutilated; and that lesbians are happy for men to claim to be lesbians? Aye, right...

It is really difficult to see where we go from here. This from India Willoughby is yet another indication of how we are stuck - how #LawFare and hopes of a ‘change in culture’ go nowhere. One of these screenshots is of my pinned tweet containing my presentation to #GenspectLisbon. This wasn’t about me trying to oppose equality or wanting to stop the world being nice and civilised. This was me charting the court sanctioned abuse of children who could not consent to transition, and expressing relief that finally we were back on track, with the help of the Cass Review. I know I am right about the harm done to children by gender identity ideology and I hope the US Supreme Court will also soon be agreeing with me. The points I and many others raise about the harm to children are real: attempts to shut us down as noxious bigots are going nowhere. And yet - they persist. When will this end? How can this end? When so many have yoked their livelihoods, their professional reputations and their very existence to a harmful theology? I don’t know. All I know is that I am right to keep objecting, I will carry on objecting and at least my conscience will be clear.

@Roman8788362174 @mushycrouton @SVPhillimore Everyone's sense of reality and truth is harmed by the lie that people can change sex, which also causes child mutilation, the appropriation of women's rights and the denial of LGB same-sex attraction. Replacing reality with fantasy is a cultural and intellectual disaster.

This stuff is legitimately hilarious because it shows how little these guys know about anything. Putting aside that Sinwar’s main combat experience is just murdering innocent people who couldn’t fight back and he died while trying to run away after hiding like a rat in tunnels behind women, children, and hostages… Netanyahu didn’t just serve in the IDF, he was a captain in an elite unit that was injured in actual combat several times. Including when he was shot in the shoulder during the raid to take out the Black September terrorists who hijacked flight 571. He was one of 16 commandos who dressed as airline mechanics and took out the hostage takers during that raid. Whatever else you think about him, he was a legit badass who has the medals and scars to prove it.
