@AndyatAuto @SimonCarGuy I also heard the reasoning about armouring of vehicles being the main issue. I’m not sure why we wouldn’t be capable of armouring a Range Rover.
English

Agree with you Simon and have regularly raised the issue on ministerial cars with Govt. The excuse is often about the armour requirement but as we both know, that is BS. Using a U.K. made car is very symbolic and there are no circumstances where it is ok for either the monarchy or ministers to use cars built outside U.K.
English

U.K. proudly produces some of the most desirable cars in the world including Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, Range Rover etc
Our industry (which employs nearly 900k people) needs government to get behind it.
But we send Their Majesties to the White House in a BMW 7 Series?
OSINTdefender@sentdefender
His Majesty, King Charles III, and Her Majesty, Queen Camilla, arrive at the White House and are personally greeted for tea by President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.

@graceyldn Them twice per day “Hey can I just say”
Me “no you can’t”
Used to be polite but they see me every day, it got tiring.

@ListerLawrence The narrative from people who have agendas seems to be diesels are dead. The narrative from someone like me who has one is, they’re brilliant to own.
Unless you get a tax incentive with the E, go D!

Advice needed: I’m going to buy a Mercedes S Class. There are some mega deals on the last of the old shape cars. The two options are S450d 4WD or S580e 4WD hybrid. My question is am I mad to be buying an S450d in 2026 when diesels seem to be a dying breed. The s580e is £10k more expensive and I don’t like the inconvenience of plugging it in everyday. I was going to go ahead with the diesel but this is a car I want to keep 5 years. Thoughts please?

@AutoPap Get the tears out of your system then tell us what the next classic project is going to be ! Look forward to finding out more.

@ListerLawrence London, Minis, Black Cabs, Red Buses and a Jaguar all in the same photo ! Impressive work.

@AndyatAuto @BillBrisco53 I love this new fact checking and providing service you’re giving !

@BillBrisco53 •Renewables (Wind, Solar, Hydro, Biomass): ~47%
•Gas: ~28%
•Nuclear: ~11%
•Net Imports & Other: ~14%

@TedWelford I know a guy who has a similar situation. Daily’s a car worth about 10k now with a ££75k plate on it. He also has some beautiful cars in his garage, he just wants to use all his plates rather than retention.
English

@AutoPap That’s like saying the only benefit of having an EV is to save money on fuel. There’s lots of other good points to an EV - no emissions, quieter, probably quicker than what you were driving before (for most) cheaper maintenance.
English

@Nir_Kahn Well done. Bringing a decent approach to a genre of car, which has nothing between a Ami and a Mini ! This could work perfectly !

The Mika Mino, bringing fun and safety to the half-tonne L7 microcar class. A car that I’ve been working on with Robin Hall featured in EV powered today

@AutoPap Car Twitter used be a fairly nice space, I honestly couldn’t believe some of the comments you’ve had recently.
English

@TGE_LDNM Imagine a car like that and only ever driving it 1800 miles in 20 years. Seems such a waste.
English

@TedWelford The V6 was great but you’ve certainly chosen the best one, especially for occasional use !
English

@ayestee I’m not the thinnest person and have never found them uncomfortable and have done a few journeys from York to London in it, albeit not often, which I guess makes the difference. Always quite liked the idea of the V6, they certainly sound a lot better
English

@TedWelford I found the buckets uncomfy, and was doing a lot of miles. I ended up with a 3.2 instead, that big lump was fun in a straight line but ruined the handling a bit.
English

@ayestee Yeah I really don’t really understand why you’d have them with non bucket seats tbh. People moan they’re not comfortable but I’ve never once found them an issued! With the buckets they’re worth quite a bit more too it seems
English

@AndyatAuto It’s good technology but we’re still relatively early in its life. It will get better. Our RR does this phantom braking but what I find worse is the lane keeping aid, which often steers me into the middle of the road or oncoming traffic for no apparent reason.
English

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are electronic, sensor-based technologies that are designed to increase vehicle safety and improve the driving experience by reducing human error. Using cameras, radar, LiDAR, and ultrasonic sensors, these systems monitor surroundings for hazards, providing alerts or taking automatic corrective action, such as emergency braking or steering assistance.
Today my car performed a phantom emergency stop, which is not uncommon.
The car industry has a love/hate with this technology which is largely mandated on them. It adds cost and weight and reduces reliability; on the other hand it’s part of the roadmap to autonomous cars.
I’m interested in your view point - should we?
English

@ShamiKalra Feels like it needs a tan strap to me. Beautiful face though.
English

@Tank_Half_Full @AutoPap Thanks for all this, really helpful. Same as you I’m considering a Roland Garros, was really surprised how much I enjoyed driving the R5 and wanted to see if the alpine offered enough to warrant nearly an extra £100pm !
English

@ayestee @AutoPap I went in there planning to come home and order a lease on an Alpine. I was so surprised I had to go back to the Alpine and have another sit in it just to revisit the intangible 'feel' of the cabin.
We'll be ordering a high spec 5 in black or this blue.
Hope that helps.

@Tank_Half_Full @AutoPap Please can you expand on why? Is it the suspension, or other? I’ve driven the R5 but not the alpine.
