We proudly raised our flag at the Toronto City Hall to celebrate our Azerbaijani history, heritage, the progressive achievements of the 1918 ADR and our founding fathers. Thank you to our community, friends, Canadian elected officials, diplomats, for joining us in celebrating 106 years since the proclamation of Independence of Azerbaijan & the establishment of the first secular parliamentary republic in the Muslim world. We are proud that values of diversity, women’s empowerment, interfaith coexistence, technological advancements planted in 1918 can thrive through our communities today!🇦🇿🇨🇦

A beautiful evening at the Ismaili Centre Toronto with friends from Toronto's Ismaili Muslim community at their Iftar dinner event. We had the pleasure of attending, reconnecting with old friends, and making new ones around the table. The Ismaili community continues to embody a deep spirit of pluralism, generosity, and service that enriches our shared life in Canada. Thank you for such a warm and thoughtful evening🌙 @TheIsmaili

As tensions escalate, we are concerned about the safety of ethnic Azerbaijanis in Iran — the country’s largest ethnic minority of roughly 25 million people. Military escalation risks devastating civilians. We urge the Government of Canada and international partners to monitor the situation and use diplomatic channels to protect civilians. @GAC_Corporate @Rob_Oliphant @AnitaAnandMP

The Network of Azerbaijani Canadians is deeply alarmed by reports of a drone strike targeting Nakhchivan International Airport, with impacts reported at the airport terminal, a nearby school, and other civilian sites. Nakhchivan is an exclave of Azerbaijan bordering Iran, and any strike on civilian infrastructure there carries serious implications for regional stability. Azerbaijani Canadians 🇦🇿🇨🇦 stand with those affected and call for full clarity regarding what occurred and for steps that prevent further escalation. We encourage Canadian officials to closely monitor the developments. @GAC_Corporate @AnitaAnandMP @Rob_Oliphant

Today, Azerbaijanis mark Fire Tuesday, the second of the four Tuesdays leading up to Novruz Bayram - the arrival of the new spring. Each Tuesday represents one of the four elements: water, fire, wind, earth. Fire worship forms an integral part of Novruz celebrations & signifies rebirth. On Fire Tuesday, Azerbaijanis light a bonfire and take literal jumps over the fire as an act of purification. Happy Fire Tuesday from our families to yours🔥 Od çərşənbəniz mübarək!

🕯️ 36 Years Since Black January Thirty-six years ago, on January 20, 1990, Soviet tanks entered Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, and opened fire on unarmed civilians. In the span of a few hours, what should have been a peaceful Saturday morning turned into one of the darkest days in Azerbaijan’s modern history. Men, women, and young people were killed indiscriminately as the Soviet government attempted to suppress Azerbaijan’s growing movement for independence. This brutal crackdown, carried out in broad daylight, became known as Black January — a tragedy that left deep scars on the nation and strengthened its resolve for freedom. Similar acts of violence were carried out by the Soviet authorities against civilians in Tbilisi, Georgia (1989) and Vilnius, Lithuania (1991), as nations across the USSR demanded their right to freedom. Despite these atrocities, the Azerbaijani people did not abandon their path toward independence. Black January remains a symbol of sacrifice, courage, and the unwavering pursuit of sovereignty. We honour the victims. We stand with their memory. We remember.

Our hearts are with the Jewish community in Sydney and Jewish families everywhere shaken by the antisemitic terror at Bondi Beach on the first night of Hanukkah. You deserve to celebrate your holidays openly, in peace, and without fear. Praying for the victims of this senseless and appalling attack, may their memories forever be a blessing🕯️ We were deeply moved by the heroic courage of Ahmed Al Ahmed, a Muslim who confronted and disarmed one of the attackers, saving lives. We are reminded that our world needs more people willing to stand between hate and their neighbour. #endantisemitism
